Building Service Worker

Under minimal supervision perform custodial duties in multiple buildings at the Millington-Memphis Airport, including cleaning restrooms and floors, stocking supplies, disposing of trash and light building maintenance duties.

Responsibilities

• Performs a full range of cleaning duties, including cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, offices and common areas, sweeping/mopping floors, polishing furniture, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning interior/exterior windows and doors and gathering trash.
• Stock cleaning supplies and necessary paper products to keep restrooms and facilities ready for public use., and report to office admin supplies orders.
• May perform light maintenance such as painting, unclogging plumbing fixtures, changing light bulbs and changing HVAC filters
• Perform preventive maintenance on floors, ceilings, and restrooms in regard to maintaining appearance and public safety.
• Operates equipment used in custodial duties such as broom, mop, vacuum, floor scrubber, pressure washer and small tools.
• Collects and disposes of debris and trash in and around airport facilities.
• Report and provide written list of accomplished tasks each shift.

Requirements

• Ability to read, comprehend and apply information from operating manuals, chemical application instructions, airport policies and procedures and FAA regulations.
• Ability to comprehend terminology used within airport operations and to communicate effectively with supervisors and other staff members.
• Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations.
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize daily assignments and work activities.
• Ability to work under a minimum degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention to detail.
• Ability to utilize a variety of cleaning procedures in a safe manner and determine appropriate cleaning equipment and products.
• Ability to perform minor maintenance and repairs.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Subject to heavy lifting, as much as 50 lbs. and a distance of four feet from the ground.
• Subject to extensive standing, walking and stooping.
• Must have the ability to climb stairs safely while carrying cleaning supplies.
• May perform some duties outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid Tennessee driver’s license preferred.
• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
• Minimum of six (6) months experience performing custodial duties.
• A six-month probationary period applies to this position.
• Must have availability to work weekdays, weekends and holidays, and as needed for special events (fly-in/airshow).
• Must pass a background check and a drug screen. 
• Will work in a non-smoking environment.
