Full Job Description

C & B Equipment, a progressive family-owned company that has grown over 30 years to include John Deere ag, material handling and powersports locations, has an opening for a Controller for our Material Handling division. This position will be located at our Field Support Office in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Controller is a hands-on position that requires consistent leadership to manage the operation of the accounting department team. This includes but is not limited to: maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting, ensuring acceptable levels of internal control, compliance with all federal, state, local, and any other jurisdiction regulations, safeguarding owners/investors assets and leading and directing the primary accounting functional areas.

Essential Duties:

  • Researching and providing resolutions on complex and technical accounting matters with the ability to document in memo form and clearly articulate to leadership and third parties (bank, auditors, etc.) the impact
  • Lead and support the accounting department in business combinations which includes due diligence, financial modeling, and integration
  • Establish and oversee financial controls, walkthroughs, accounting policies, and flowcharts for the accounting department’s functional areas
  • Successful completion of all internal and external financial audits, including coordination of work with CPA firms and banks in delivering information requested by auditors or institutions on a timely basis
  • Lead and support new business or accounting software development
  • Ensure business compliance on regulatory licenses and permits, leases, contracts, legal agreements, and the proper execution of all operational taxes. Provide assistance and communication to management to aid in enforcing compliance on all these items
  • Review or prepare monthly financial statements in a timely manner and in accordance with GAAP which includes leading the month end close, reviewing/preparing account reconciliations, preparing financial statement fluctuation analysis
  • Review, prepare, and forecast all banking covenants and requirements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Manage, lead, and develop the accounting team in line with best practices, focusing on delivering high-quality results and outputs to internal customers and all key stakeholders in an effective and efficient manner
  • Prepare presentations for management reviews and quarterly board meetings
  • Execute other special projects and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • Understands the integrated systems of internal control and the relationship to disclosure and financial reporting
  • Understanding of financial statements, cash flow, and key financial ratios
  • Knowledge of financial principles required for budgeting and strategic planning
  • Proficient with financial concepts such as budgets, Return on Investment (ROI), Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), and Net Operating Return on Assets (NORA)
  • 5 years experience in financial management required
  • 10 years experience in financial management preferred
  • Bachelors Degree in an Accounting/Finance/Business discipline or equivalent experience required.
  • Masters Degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration preferred
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Ability to meet physical demands and duration of physical exertion generally required to perform tasks in support of all job functions, for example - sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling
