POSS Lead Machine Operator

General:

The lead machine operator sets up, operates, maintains, and troubleshoots the POSS equipment involved in grinding and cooling parts of turkey from processing. Roles and responsibilities require knowledge base of POSS grinding equipment and cooling systems. The position reports to the Deboning supervisor w/ primary work schedule of M-F, early day shift for setup & start-up. Flexibility to work late, short-notice overtime, and weekends, as needed is expected.

Specific Duties / Responsibilities:

• Responsible for leading and coordinating the safe setting up, operating, maintaining the POSS grinding machinery & monitoring of cooling support systems
• Leads the execution of required housekeeping including the labeling, packaging, movement of ground turkey meat & bone materials
• Partners with deboning area leads supervisors, manager, and scheduling team to produce expected types/ amounts and quality of turkey parts
• Applies and transfers working knowledge of POSS equipment operation and troubleshooting techniques to other POSS operators & support
• Performs proper lock-out (LOTO) of all POSS machines and supporting utilities  
• Operates with a safety-first mindset above all other department measuring parameters
• Ensures compliance with GMP, Safety, and USDA guidelines to achieve top quality in a safe work environment
•  Seeks knowledge, learns new skills, cross trains others, and improves processes
•  Performs other assigned duties as directed

Requirements

• Skills/Abilities/Attributes:
• Working knowledge in poultry or other food processing industry (required)
• Solid understanding of food safety compliance (required)
• Self-directed; good initiative; able to work in fast-paced environment
• Team player with solid interpersonal skills and ability to work w/ minimum supervision
• Mechanically inclined to perform job duties as needed

• Physical Requirements:
• Lift / move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally 50 lbs.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, stoop up to 10 hrs./shift
• Work safely in hot, cold, wet environment w/ varying temperatures (e.g., 35-40 / 100 degrees)
