Primary Function:
The MS/US Visual Arts Teacher & Mentor is responsible for Christ-centered, artistic instruction that offers a superior education academically, spiritually, and socially, in a structured, positive environment. The Visual Arts Mentor works with their respective division principal and the Fine Arts Director to foster the student’s growth artistically and in their Christian faith, in respectful partnership with school families. This role also offers the opportunity to shape the artistic curriculum, and foster an environment where creativity, faith, and artistic excellence intersect. The successful candidate will be an experienced educator, a passionate artist, and a committed Christian who can integrate faith into the visual arts curriculum while maintaining a high standard of excellence in all aspects of the program.
Primary Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development & Implementation
- Design, implement, and continually evaluate a comprehensive visual arts curriculum that aligns with the school’s mission and Christian values.
- Ensure the curriculum challenges students to develop technical skills, artistic expression, and critical thinking while fostering an understanding of how art connects to faith, culture, and history.
- Integrate cross-curricular opportunities where visual arts can enhance students’ academic experience across subjects, such as Bible study, history, and literature.
- Offer instruction in a variety of visual art forms, including but not limited to drawing, painting, sculpture, digital media, photography, and graphic design.
Student Engagement & Instruction
- Integrate the Christian worldview into the teaching and practice of visual arts, emphasizing the role of art in reflecting God’s creation, beauty, and divine creativity.
- Instruct middle and/or upper school students in advanced art techniques, artistic expression, and the integration of faith with art.
- Offer personalized feedback to students, encouraging their artistic growth and helping them develop portfolios for college or career paths.
- Facilitate the development of students’ artistic voice while fostering a Christian perspective on beauty, creativity, and the nature of art as a reflection of God’s creation.
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that values diversity, fosters self-expression, and promotes the exploration of God-given talents.
- Mentor students in developing their Christian identity through art, exploring the intersection of faith and creativity in their own work.
- Keep proper discipline in the classroom, on the school premises and on field trips to create a nurturing learning environment.
- Help maintain clean, organized and purposeful classroom learning zones.
- Maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records in myHHCA of each student’s progress.
Local and Community Outreach
- Organize, manage and curate student art exhibitions and art events, both within the school community and in public venues, that celebrate students’ achievements and raise the profile of the department.
- Lead or participate in all fine arts events, working with a team of fine arts professionals designing a 21st century fine arts curriculum
- Engage students in service learning and community art projects that reflect the school’s Christian mission, such as creating artwork for local ministries or collaborating with other organizations.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in art education, fine arts or a related field (master’s degree preferred)
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in visual arts; a strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in various art forms and teaching experience in high school visual arts.

- Demonstrate an advanced proficiency with various art media, including traditional and digital tools, and knowledge of current trends in art education and technology.
- Possess an obvious passion about the transformative power of art and its ability to inspire students to think critically, creatively, and spiritually.
- Be an active supporter and promoter of HHCA in the classroom, with parents and in the community at large.
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with staff, students, faculty and parents.
