Expected Hours of Work: (include any mandatory meeting times with time zone) 40 hours a week; M-F 9-5 in office
Requirements
We are seeking a talented and innovative Electrical Design Engineer to join our Research & Development (R&D) team. This role is crucial in designing and developing cutting-edge analytical life science instrumentation aimed at improving human health and driving scientific discovery. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of electrical, software, mechanical, and application engineers to bring concepts to life and commercialize high-performance instruments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems for analytical instruments, ensuring technical and project objectives are met.
- Source and manage procurement of electrical components, maintaining supplier relationships and overseeing prototype builds.
- Perform quality control checks and first-article inspections for electrical components to ensure compliance with specifications and industry standards.
- Execute instrument design verification and validation activities, including designing experiments (DOE), developing test cases, and analyzing test data.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize manufacturing processes and ensure scalable production.
- Assist in prototyping and hands-on debugging during the development process.
- Contribute to firmware design and development for embedded systems.
- Undertake additional tasks and projects as assigned to support R&D initiatives and company goals.
Qualifications Requirements
- Proficiency with microcontrollers, including experience with tools and technologies like MCS-51, ARM/Cortex, MSP430, etc.
- Experience writing firmware in C/C++ for embedded systems.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as UART, RS-485, I2C, and SPI.
- Proficiency with schematic and PCB design using tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence, or OrCAD.
- Skilled in using electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
- Hands-on experience in prototyping, soldering, and debugging.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with advanced communication protocols, including USB, TCP/IP, and Bluetooth.
- Knowledge of optical design and its integration into instrumentation.
- Experience developing applications in C++, C#, or similar programming languages.
- Prior experience in designing systems for analytical instruments or medical devices.
Education, License, Certification, or Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with ~3+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with ~1+ year of relevant experience.

- Ability to remain in a stationary position; move; operate and use required equipment; and reach items.
- Ability to move/transport up to 30 lbs., and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
