Position: Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety
Salary: $110,000 – $145,000 + Bonus
Job Summary
The Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety oversees all environmental policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with Company, State, and Federal regulations across all locations. This role is pivotal in maintaining a safe and sustainable work environment through diligent management and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Management:
- Develop and maintain a compliance calendar for environmental permitting and regulatory activities.
- Manage the Environmental Management System (EMS) to ensure facility adherence to regulations with meticulous attention to detail.
- Wastewater Treatment Oversight:
- Oversee the operation, compliance, and reporting of the facility’s Wastewater Treatment System.
- Waste Disposal Management:
- Supervise the disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials.
- Evaluate alternative disposal options, schedule activities, maintain records, ensure certifications, and conduct training.
- Sustainability Initiatives:
- Lead ongoing sustainability efforts to achieve targeted environmental improvements.
- MDI Process Participation:
- Actively engage in the Material Design Initiative (MDI) process.
- Lead all environmental aspects, including preparing and presenting information to the leadership team as needed.
- Facility Oversight:
- Provide oversight and authority on environmental issues across all facilities.
- Conduct routine facility inspections to ensure compliance, document findings, and manage remediation of problem areas.
- Communication and Training:
- Manage all communications related to environmental issues with employees.
- Conduct training sessions on EMS, waste handling, chemical hazards, pollution prevention, and waste minimization.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Participate in and drive continuous improvement programs.
- Additional Duties:
- Perform other related tasks as assigned to support the Environmental, Health & Safety department.
Requirements
Required Skills and Abilities
- Technical Proficiency:
- Ability to read and interpret environmental and safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software with excellent computer skills.
- Communication:
- High-level verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to write both routine and non-routine reports and develop effective presentations.
- Analytical Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Decision-Making:
- Ability to make decisive, sound, and reasonable judgments under pressure.
- Organizational Skills:
- Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Leadership:
- Experience supervising Environmental Scientists, Specialists, or other personnel within the Environmental department.
- Travel:
- Willingness to travel 25-50% of the time to support multiple facilities.
Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in an Environmental Specialist role or a similar position within a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Health and Safety, or a related field is required.
