Full Job Description
Employee promotion results in our search for a deputy chief adult parole and probation officer. Second in command, the deputy chief is responsible for the direction, administration, and coordination of all office operations.
Essential functions include directing and supervising activities of all staff; assists the chief with the writing, reviewing and updating departmental policies; provides information and assistance to the county judges and district court administrator; preparing short-term and long-term strategic objectives; drafting meeting agendas; attending meetings; recruiting, screening, and interviewing prospective employees; setting expectations and ensuring that they are reflected in staff job descriptions; trains and motivates staff; planning and developing new special projects; preparing an annual report of operations; developing new resources within the community in response to client need; ensuring that laws are observed; managing and preparing the annual budget; keeping abreast of grant programs and their availability; promoting and implementing an active community relations program; and reviewing and responding to complaints.
Requirements
Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor's degree in criminology, criminal justice, social work, sociology, psychology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;a master's degree preferred; a minimum of 7 years of experience in and working knowledge of the courts, corrections, and/or law enforcement, as well as county, state, and federal governments and an understanding of their interrelationship; a valid Pennsylvania driver's license; superior interpersonal skills; three years' supervisory experience preferred, preferably in a parole or probation unit; demonstrated experience meeting deadlines; outstanding organizational skills; meticulous attention to detail; a courteous, patient, and professional demeanor; ability to maintain confidentiality of information; basic computer skills; ability to lead and motivate others; experience with reading and interpreting financial and statistical information; a willingness to assist others in reaching their potential; a team-player attitude; and self-motivation.
Benefits
Competitive benefits package starts first of the month following 30 calendar days and includes 90% employer-paid PPO health plan with three-tier prescription and vision benefit components, defined benefit pension plan, defined contribution plan, short-term disability, and ample time-off provisions.
