About This Role

Galois is seeking a passionate individual with experience in engineering leadership roles and a strong technical background to join our expanding team. Our ideal candidate embodies a servant-leader approach, excels at leading diverse engineering teams and projects to success, and is enthusiastic about technology.

The Engineering Project Lead is an essential role at Galois. Ideal candidates will have a keen interest in trends in engineering and leadership and possess a high level of emotional intelligence. They play an active role in influencing the culture of their local office and supporting the broader organization.

The Engineering Project Lead is responsible for all aspects of their project’s success, including delivering client value, building teams, planning, and tracking, guiding work execution, full project budgeting, and overall team health and well-being. They have freedom of choice, working with their team to find the best practices for the project, team, and client’s needs. Most projects at Galois are led in a partnership between the Project Lead and a Principal Investigator, who leads the research agenda and sets the technical direction for the project.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be responsible for all aspects of team leadership and project execution, including:

  • Ensuring the team is consistently delivers world-class results that delight the client, are on time and within budget
  • Empowering individual Engineers to understand how their unique contributions contribute to the greater project goals
  • Providing Engineers opportunities for professional growth
  • Planning all aspects of projects and coordinating all project activities
  • Supporting Engineers in finding satisfying work (even if that means work on a different project) through coaching efforts
  • Communicating project status, issues, and results to the client and as an internal advocate: via presentations, written reports, and conversations
  • Collaborating with other project leads to address company-wide concerns

Key Qualifications

At a minimum, successful candidates have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in servant leadership positions, fostering collaboration and building vibrant and inclusive teams
  • Extensive experience engaging and leading diverse technical teams
  • Extensive experience successfully leading software engineering or technical research projects
  • A track record of strategic technical planning and the ability to adapt to emerging technologies and domains.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies and technical domains

Security Requirement

  • The ability to hold and retain a Secret security clearance
  • The candidate must not require a U.S. government export license to authorize access to export-controlled technology and software required to perform this role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience leading or working in technical areas such as: functional programming, formal verification, secure computation, and overall computer science areas of research and development
  • Previous roles involving fiscal responsibilities

Location

We enjoy a hybrid work environment and being co-located with one of our offices (Portland, OR; Minneapolis, MN; Dayton, OH; Arlington, VA) or locations where secure rooms are available is required.
