We are a leading, national consulting firm that provides compassionate, full-spectrum emergency management services including planning and preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation services to the public and private sectors before, during and after a natural disaster or catastrophic event.

Only candidates located in the Portland OR area will be considered for this position.

The EOC (Emergency Operations Center) Support Staff plays a crucial role in the operational effectiveness of the Emergency Operations Center. This position involves a wide range of support tasks including administrative duties, logistics, communication, and coordination activities to facilitate the decision-making and response processes of the EOC. The ideal candidate is highly organized, capable of working under pressure, and has excellent communication skills. The position will be guided in all activities by ACDC’s Corporate Values Platform.

Requirements

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Support EOC Operations: Assist in the setup and maintenance of the EOC facility, ensuring that communication systems, IT infrastructure, and other essential equipment are operational.
  • Communication: Facilitate effective communication within the EOC, as well as with external partners, agencies, and the public. This may include managing phone lines, radios, and other communication tools.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely records of EOC activities, including decision logs, action plans, and situation reports. Ensure documentation is organized and accessible for review and auditing purposes.
  • Logistics and Resource Management: Support the logistics section by tracking the allocation and status of resources, including personnel, equipment, and supplies. Assist in the coordination of resource requests and deployments.
  • Situational Awareness: Help gather and analyze information relevant to the emergency situation. This may involve monitoring news outlets, social media, and other sources to provide updates to EOC staff.
  • Administrative Support: Perform various administrative tasks such as scheduling, data entry, preparing reports, and other duties as assigned to support EOC operations.
  • Training and Exercises: Participate in training sessions and exercises to improve EOC operational readiness and personal competence in emergency management processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Education: High school diploma required.
  • Experience: 1-3 years experience in an administrative role.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly learn specialized software used in emergency management.
  • Certifications: Completion of FEMA’s Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses is highly desirable.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Process-driven with excellent time-management ability.
  • Solid team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High levels of integrity with the ability to handle confidential information.

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Previous experience in emergency management, public safety, or a related field is beneficial.
  • QA/QC experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field preferred, with a minimum of three years’ experience in emergency management or another relevant field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed, including after hours and on weekends.
  • Willingness to deploy and work on-site with clients at base camp or EOC.
  • Long hours at a computer and/or on-site.
  • Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time if needed.
  • Occasional lift, carry, bend, stoop and reaching required.
  • Mobility around office and client sites.
  • Requires ability to support an Emergency Management Environment including work on weekends and/or holidays to support an Emergency Management Environment.
  • All ACDC positions require travel to client sites or for emergency activations/deployments, as requested by leadership.
