Exciting Opportunity at Drake Planetarium: Join Us as a STEM Summer Instructor!

Are you passionate about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)? Do you love inspiring young minds and sparking a love for discovery and innovation? If you've nodded your head to these questions, then Drake Planetarium has an exciting opportunity for you! We are currently seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable STEM Summer Instructors to lead our Summer STEM Academy for students from Kindergarten through to those entering 8th Grade.

About the Role: As a STEM Summer Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience of our students over a 6-week summer program. Running daily from 9 AM to 4 PM, our Summer STEM Academy is designed to engage students in hands-on learning, fostering curiosity and a passion for the STEM fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging STEM lessons and activities tailored to a diverse range of ages and abilities.
  • Conduct planetarium shows that captivate and educate, turning the wonders of the universe into an accessible and exciting narrative.
  • Lead science labs, facilitating experiments that allow students to apply concepts in a practical, real-world context.
  • Organize and oversee field trips, ensuring a safe and enriching experience that complements our curriculum.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages questions, discovery, and teamwork.
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors and staff to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive educational experience.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A strong background in STEM fields, with relevant education and/or professional experience.
  • Prior teaching or instructional experience, especially with children in K-8 grades, is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire young learners.
  • A proactive, creative approach to teaching and problem-solving.
  • Availability to work throughout the 6-week program duration, from 9 AM to 4 PM daily.
  • A commitment to safety, inclusivity, and fostering a supportive educational environment.
