Baesman Group, a nationally recognized provider of direct-to-customer marketing strategy and multi-channel execution is seeking an experienced SQL Database Developer to join our Information Technology Team. The SQL Database Developer works within a small IT Team to serve internal and external clients for customer loyalty and engagement programs, operations/manufacturing systems, and in-house/custom-built applications.
The Database Developer role provides the principal capability within the organization to design, create, modify, maintain/monitor, secure, and optimize database structures including tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures. Other critical duties include daily complex ad-hoc query writing, SQL job monitoring and processing, ETL development, report writing, and MS BI management.
The SQL Database Developer also provides the primary report writing capability within the organization for production management reporting and data extraction activities from various systems (both internal and external) and helps facilitate data-based quality control efforts for data coming in to, and out of, our and our client’s systems.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be a fast learner. Because of the role’s requirement for daily interaction with the Lead Application Developer, internal teams of account managers and data analysts, and directly with external clients, speaking fluent English is required, as are strong personal/professional skills. The role is expected to be able to interact in meetings, ask good questions, learn quickly, and be on-camera when working remotely.
This is a hybrid role with two days spent in our Columbus, OH headquarters, and the remaining three days in a work-from-home remote setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lead the installation, configuration, design, and testing of new client and production-focused databases supporting all data-related activities. Identifies user requirements, sets up database structures, tests, and coordinates modifications to these systems.
2. Create and maintain data loads from external clients via SSIS and manipulate data via a strong knowledge of ETL/SSIS and SQL stored procedures.
3. Complete daily complex "ad hoc" queries and report requests for delivery to internal and external teams. Create and maintain data views to support the internal SAS Analytics team.
4. Implement database performance monitoring, mapping of conceptual designs, refining logical designs, data modeling, maintaining data standards and protection (encryption), writing database documentation (standards, procedures, definitions), defining access control and permissions, managing backup and recovery paths, and participating in capacity planning.
5. Provide ongoing maintenance of all organizational production and administrative data sources to ensure data integrity and database security. Troubleshoots database errors, indexing, speed, or other concerns. Coordinates with the VP, Technology, and Lead Developer to ensure all data storage and retrieval capabilities are properly supported and maintained within our IT infrastructure.
6. Produce and maintain database documentation (e.g. data dictionary, Entity Relationship Diagrams) as required for proper system maintenance and system enhancements.
7. Lead the discovery, mock-up, creation, testing, scheduling, and ongoing revision of SQL/SSRS-based business reports.
8. Maintain multiple SQL server instances including SQL and OS versions, compatibility, upgrades, working with external vendors to ensure functionality, etc.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; or five to seven years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
MCSE: Data Platform Certification is desired, but not required.
Other Skills and Abilities:
· Mastery of database administration and development.
· Mastery of structured query language (SQL), SSIS, SSRS, ETL, and report writing.
· Mastery of creation and ongoing management of stored procedures and SQL scripting.
· Comprehensive knowledge of database security, backups, and recovery.
· Comfort with both on-prem and cloud-based SQL deployments.
· Comprehensive knowledge of data analysis, modeling, and database design techniques.
· Skill in performing complex and specialized database functions.
· Experience with Snowflake and MS Azure is a plus.
· Skill in evaluating changes in the production environment and anticipating resources needed to meet those changes.
· Strong experience with reporting tools (SQL, SSRS, Crystal Reports, BI, etc.)
· Experience with high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery.

· Ability to work independently against project milestones to achieve objectives with minimal supervision.
