Starting Rate: $28.81 per hour Pay Grade: 24

Location / Department: Kinsey Road Processing Center / Mobile Services

Reports to: Youth & Mobile Services Coordinator

Employment Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt | Non-Bargaining Unit

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week (schedule includes daytime, evening and weekend hours)

Job Objective

To promote the mission and values of the Greene County Public Library. To carry out objectives and goals of the strategic plan to better serve the community. To serve as the Head of Mobile Services to include outreach activities to adult care facilities, homebound individuals, schools, pre-schools, and childcare centers. To manage departmental operations and supervise outreach and bookmobile staff; plans and provides services and programming.

Requirements

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages the programming and initiatives for mobile outreach activities to serve adults and youth. Plans, designs, promotes, presents, and evaluates programs and services.
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with facilities, agencies, schools and care centers that serve both youth and adults. Identifies opportunities to reach out to homebound adults, schools and care centers to offer Library programming and materials.
  • Supervises Outreach and Bookmobile staff. Interviews, selects, and trains new employees. Evaluates subordinates’ performance and counsels them on the solution of new or difficult problems.
  • Conducts staff meetings to transmit information about policies and procedures. Solves departmental problems and solicits staff input.

  • Analyzes outreach and bookmobile services and collection needs, identifies trends, develops goals and measurements, and recommends new and improved policies, procedures, and practices. Informs central selectors of outreach developments and patron trends and suggests materials to meet those needs.
  • The supervisor may require other related duties. These duties are nonessential functions of this position.
  • Monitors and evaluates scheduled services and delivery routes for maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Gathers statistics, prepares reports, and completes other projects as assigned.
  • Develops program and budget plan for the department for consideration. Responsible for facilitating the approved plan.
  • Attends Adult Services and Youth Services Council meetings.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments in Outreach and Bookmobile services through attendance and participation in conferences and workshops and through programs of continuing education, professional reading, and participation in professional groups.
  • Attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and training to maintain knowledge as reflected in training curriculum.
  • Keeps abreast of information by regularly reading email, minutes and staff website as well as attending staff meetings.
  • Performs tasks of lower level classifications as necessary, including driving and operating the Bookmobile.

  • Ability to maintain good relations with the public and other staff, individually and in general, shows tact and courtesy.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment and handle difficult situations.
  • Ability to handle routine problems and keep supervisor informed of departmental needs and concerns.

  • Ability to exercise decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of library principles, methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reader’s advisory and the reference interview.
  • Proven knowledge of computer applications for libraries, including use of mobile apps and devices, and ability to instruct patrons on their use; ability to trouble shoot basic computer issues and other related equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly; listen, understand, speak, and write effectively.
  • Ability to move up to 50 pounds of library materials in and out of vehicles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with successful library experience required.
  • Masters of Library Science and Information Degree from an ALA accredited school preferred.
  • Two years supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License and meet requirements for driver insurability, as verified through the Library’s Insurance Company.
  • Must be able to attend and successfully complete defensive driving training course.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office-like setting, but with need for considerable mobility: light lifting, bending, stooping, stretching and sitting at a variety of desks and service points.
  • Employee may be scheduled to work evening and weekend hours, including Sundays; schedules may be altered depending on the needs of the library.
  • Must be able to drive an RV-type vehicle safely (does not require CDL).
