EH&S Specialist
Responsible for EHS compliance for single plant. Create, implement and manage policies and activities relating to all matters of safety, environment, DOT, and worker’s compensation and other tasks, as required.
- Ensure site compliance with all relevant environmental and safety related federal and state laws and local ordinances pertaining to safety and environment.
- Coordinates and/or delivers all EHS training activities for the plant.
- Serve as the EHS representative for the plant.
- Develops and implements effective programs for protecting site environment to include but not limited to air, water, soil, natural resources, and property.
- Develops and implements effective programs for maintaining, enhancing, and fostering a “zero incident” safety culture.
- Conducts environmental and chemical sampling as required or oversees outsourcing of such.
- Leads environmental and safety committees and teams and facilitates their activities.
- Stays abreast of current (EPA, OSHA) and emerging laws, regulations and trends in environment and safety.
- Develops, conducts and coordinates the facility annual training plan for EHS topics.
- Prepare, conduct, and coordinate effective training classes and programs for EHS matters (examples include, but not limited to: EHS Supervisory training, new hire EHS, fork truck training and license program, emergency response team training. First Aid, CPR, AED, etc.)
- Supports Worker’s Compensation Administration efforts along with Corporate WC Manager
- Maintain plant Safety Data Sheet (SDS) books, OSHA 300 logs, EHS related files and associated paperwork (manifests, permits, etc)
- Prepare the monthly and biweekly safety call presentations.
- requisition of safety supplies/ Safety Supply Inv. Mgmt.
- Implement and maintain Health and Safety Management System and associated initiatives.
- Oversee and participates with teams of persons to investigate all accidents and assist in the implementation of corrective actions.
- Arrange for annual medical monitoring (as necessary) yearly eye and hearing examinations.

- Ensure first aid management through first aid and follow up to injuries, OSHA record keeping medical records, administering works compensation and pre-employment physical examinations
- Comply with the written environmental (ISO 14001) and quality TS 16949 policies
- Leases closely with the Human Resources and other departments throughout the organization providing a customer-focused and effective support service to the organization to achieve the organization goals and objectives.
- Prepares and posts job advertisements, screens applicants, arranges interviews, and administers pre-employment tests as required.
- Provides general administrative support such as preparing correspondence, forms and reports, arranging meetings, composing regular correspondence, processing confidential reports and documents, filing electronic and hard copy, tracking deadlines and taking down minutes as needed.
- Manages sensitive and confidential matters like personnel relations, employee relations and organizational changes, planning and protecting the security of information, data and files.
- Responds to various queries from managers and employees and from other agencies and departments.
- Coordinates staff training or appreciation events or programs and recommends resources as needed.
- Interacts with and supplies information to employees, department heads and job applicants.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Currently pursuing an Bachelors in safety/environmental certifications (i.e., 40 hour OSHA training, Incident Management Commander training; Haz-Com) Human Resources Management, Communications, Business or similar field at junior or senior level plus 5-10 years equivalent manufacturing experience
- At least 3-5 years experience of professional EHS work in production environment with familiarity with basic OSHA, DOT, EPA, and Worker’s Compensation regulations and
- Minimum one year experience developing and presenting training in EHS and HR area
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Solid knowledge of relevant environmental and safety related federal and state laws and local ordinances pertaining to safety and environment
- Knowledge of current EPA, OSHA and other related regulations and emerging laws and trends
- Ability to develop and conduct effective EHS related training for production environment
- Ability to conduct safety audits, and implement appropriate changes to correct or comply with regulations/standards
- Ability to influence across functional organizations and businesses, resolve problems in a timely manner, and develop alternate solutions when necessary
- Good verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively communicate with all levels and types of internal and external individuals including ability to write reports, policy, procedures, and correspondences
- Computer literate in Microsoft products: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Possess leadership skills that are capable of generating cooperation and progress across different functions within the organization
- Must be goal oriented and give emphasis to meeting target dates in a timely manner
- Ability to physically access all areas of the plant with reasonable accommodations.
