Specifications:

  • Reports to: Executive Director
  • Position Status: 40 hour per month contractor
  • Compensation: $60- $75 per hour depending on experience
  • Location: 100% remote, but a commutable distance from Columbus, Ohio is appreciated

Summary:

Abortion Fund of Ohio (AFO) is seeking a values-aligned and strategic Development Lead who will create and lead the execution of a fundraising plan for one year. 

The Development lead will work closely with our Executive Director (ED) to lead our efforts in expanding abortion access for all Ohioans. Reporting to the AFO Board of Directors, the ED will be responsible for leading and leveraging the collective power and voices of AFO's dedicated community of supporters and volunteers in order to meet our aggressive fundraising goals.

This Scope of Work includes:

  • Secure resources to support AFO’s mission through fundraising, building relationships with funders and major donors, grant-writing and management, and event oversight
  • Maintain fiscal integrity of the organization including developing a board-approved annual budget, managing organizational resources to adhere to the budget, developing monthly and quarterly financial reports that accurately reflect the financial position of the organization
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to cultivate key donor and funder relationships and create a sustainable development strategy
  • Maximize our fundraising capacity by putting plans in place for regular fundraisers we already participate in, like Fund-a-thon
  • Coach and collaborate with the ED to develop integrated fundraising goals across all giving levels
  • Managing up, preparing and informing ED for high-stakes investment conversations and proposals
  • Lead foundation and major gift research; develop a comprehensive fundraising plan for all major gift prospects built upon existing streams of revenue and other potential new sources
  • Manage and oversee the formation and maintenance of necessary grant reports, records and development processes
  • Maximize the effectiveness of the organization’s special events, which range from small cultivation events to larger fundraising events, in order to help develop, attract, retain, and further engage donors while planning to raise 150% of the estimated yearly budget
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop and manage consistent messaging and create content for donor engagement, email communications, direct mail, program reports, and other fundraising materials
  • Support budget development/ budget reporting for grants
  • Work to reward and grow our monthly donor base
  • Working with the finance team to inform grant tracking and allocations to salaries and budget line items
  • Work with our finance team to create a system for and oversee that contributions are administered in accordance with donor’s wishes and all gifts are recorded, acknowledged, and receipts provided in a timely manne

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Commitment to maintaining abortion access, growing our abortion fund, and working towards full reproductive health care for all
  • Minimum five (5) years of development/fundraising experience, including managing other managers in non-profit organizations
  • A minimum of five years past experience in major gifts solicitation ($50,000 minimum) and/or fundraising leadership for a non-profit with a budget of $1M or more
  • Experience with many types of fundraising: grants, direct mail, events, digital, major donor
  • Ability to translate big-picture, long-term strategies into written plans and presentations, and confidence in communicating and advocating for those plans both internally and externally
  • Dedication to anti-racist principles, power-sharing strategies, and following the lead of those most directly impacted by current or future policies and frameworks. Commitment to working within an intersectional framework that includes, but is not limited to gender, economic, and racial justice, as well as the ability to operationalize and integrate these principles into proposals and programming narratives
  • Knowledge of computer applications: G Suite, MS Office, Zoom for internal communications and project management

  • Capacity-wise, do you have a steady 10 hours per week available? You can choose your hours, but 6 of them per week must be between 11am- 4pm EST Monday-Thursday so that you can have overlapping work time to meet with our ED, interface with our team, and assist in donor meetings when necessary.
