The Field Electrical Technician (FET) will primarily support the Field Operations of their local basin by troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of Automation controls within the S3S fleet of electrical systems to ensure site locations remain operational while minimizing the swap-out occurrences. They are responsible for the installation, programming, and troubleshooting of a variety of VFD & PLC product lines to ensure they remain functional on-site, repaired within budget, and in compliance with industry standards, HSE, and S3S-Standards. They will additionally assist the local basin Shop with day-to-day maintenance on electrical panels, fleet based electrical upgrades, and training of team members on electrical systems and devices.
Essential Functions:
- Provide On-Call tech support (Phone, Electronic and Onsite) to field personnel as needed.
- Educate and train the Field Operations and Basin Shop members on these devices.
- Load PLC and Drive programs and parameters sets.
- Basic PLC troubleshooting.
- Installation, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of PLCs and Variable Frequency Drives, motor drives, and 480v systems.
- Performing tests of PLC / VFD controls units as well as connected components (Pumps, Sensors, Hardwired or Networked)
- Assist current Field Leaders with initial Rig-Up, and training, of newly deployed IOT systems.
- Repairing electrical devices and equipment.
- Replacing old or defective electronic devices with new ones.
- Perform upgrades of hardware and software and assist in training others on how to properly operate the system.
- Calibrate and commission newly installed devices and equipment.
- Maintaining controls systems on a regular basis.
- Working in collaboration with Field Operations, their local Basin Shop, and Electrical and Engineering team as required.
- Identify unsafe conditions or potential hazards within the work environment and report.
- Identifying needs for VFD electronic devices.
- Maintaining local Basin electrical components stock levels, purchase as required, and update inventory counts in associated software systems.
- Auditing and providing Preventive Maintenance (PM) work on field deployed assets.
- Perform QA/QC checks prior to “Green-Tag” and properly record test results.
- May be asked to provide evaluation input of current PW1 and PW2 employees for internal promotion.
- Other duties as assigned by the local Basin SM or EM.
- May be required to work in other locations from time to time.
Requirements
- Read and interpret Engineering Drawings, Schematics and BOMs.
- Understanding the workings of PLC equipment.
- Experience working with low voltage devices, 600VAC and lower.
- Possess working knowledge of Variable Frequency Drive electrical systems. (Siemens, Yaskawa, AB)
- Sketch/Draw electrical system structures.
- Excellent troubleshooting abilities.
- Knowledge and experience in calibrating equipment.
- Must be mechanically inclined / adept, and familiar with hand tools.
- Ability to identify the thread size and specification of an unknown fastener.
- Understanding of proper fastener installation, and torquing.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English (Spanish is a plus).
- Ability to utilize measuring devices: tape measure, caliper, thread gauge, etc.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Able to communicate effectively with others.
- Must have manual dexterity and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions.
Minimum Required Education, Credentials, Licenses and Experience:
- High School Diploma, or equivalent GED
- 2+ Years of work experience as a Variable Frequency Drive Field Technician, Variable Frequency Drive Technician, or a similar position in the Engineering or Field Service field.
- 2+ Years of work experience as a PLC technician (Siemens, Omron), or a similar position in the Engineering or Field Service field. (Preferred)
- 2+ Years of work experience with controls and electrical troubleshooting.
- 2+ Years of work experience with Controls, Automation, Drive and Office Suite computer software packages (TIA Portal, CX-Suite, Drive Wizard, Excel, Outlook)
- Forklift Certified (Preferred, Certification on-site available)
