Full Job Description
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be a high school graduate, certified under the GED program, or have passed an alternative examination established by the department.
- Shall have documentation of successfully completing the clinical skills validation portion of the competency evaluation according to the Adult Care Home Licensure Rules.
- Will successfully complete the medication skills validation portion of the competency evaluation according to the Adult Care Home Licensure Rules.
- Will successfully pass the written examination prior to or within 60 days after successful completion of the medication skills competency evaluation.
- Will complete 6 hours of continuing education annually related to medication administration.
- Appropriately utilize the Medication Administration Record during preparation and administration of medications;
- The staff member is to use the MAR during preparation and administration of medications.
- The person preparing the medication must initial the MAR after administration. When preparing and administering medications, the staff is to compare the label on the medication to the MAR 3 times as indicated below.
- When selecting and/or pulling the medication from the storage area
- Prior to pouring the medication
- After pouring the medication and prior to returning the medication to the storage area.
- All information on the MAR must be accurate.
- Appropriate documentation of medication/treatment administration:
- The MAR is to be initialed immediately after observing the resident taking the medication and prior to administering medications to the next resident. PRECHARTING IS NOT ALLOWED.
- If a medication and/or treatment are held, the medication aide should circle his/her initial in the administration block and explain the reason the medication/treatment was held on the back of the MAR
- Must be knowledgeable of the facility’s policy regarding refusal of medications; i.e.: when to contact supervisor
- Take and record temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure when appropriate.
- Take and record monthly vital signs by the 10th of the month for each resident.
- Assure that medication cart is stocked appropriately.
- Must be a PCA or a CNA
- Monitoring of CNA and PCA’s on the floor to ensure coverage during breaks, patient care, dining, laundry, etc.
- Supervise and ensure that CNA’s and PCA’s have completed proper documentation prior to changing shifts.

- Report on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs.
- Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with coworkers, residents, families, and visitors.
- Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, facility operations and personnel.

- Promote teamwork in providing services to residents
