We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Extrusion Machine Operator! This position is in our PVC facility in Pineville, NC and reports to the Production Supervisor.
Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic individual with a keen eye to detail and a positive demeanor. The successful candidate will focus on safety, quality and continuous improvement.
In this position you will operate and run machinery and production lines which are related to equipment for the purposes of pipe production. You will conduct these activities while ensuring and improving safety, product quality, production output, housekeeping and cost control to achieve plant goals.
Principal Responsibilities
- Assist in the line operation of extrusion equipment used to produce pipe aligned with IPEX's procedures and protocols.
- Notify Supervisor and/or Lead Hands of any non-conformance or unknown conditions and facilitate corrective actions as needed.
- Perform quality checks using micrometers, calipers, and tape measures.
- Package pipe in accurate pallet sizes and quantities and document production; identify, transfer, and load material for production.
- Use basic hand tools.
- Identify, remove and report scrap in compliance with work instructions.
- Support and stay in sync with the efforts of the Joint, Health & Safety Committee (JHSC); maintain acceptable housekeeping, environmental and safe working conditions. Inspect and report potential unsafe or hazardous conditions.
- Exhibit a working understanding of extruders and associated equipment such as hoppers and material loaders, extruder vacuum systems, regrind loaders and carbon black feeders.
Requirements
- A high school degree or equivalent required with the ability to read, write and do basic math. Must be knowledgeable in measurement systems.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred; plastics experience is an asset.
- Comfortable using hand tools, as well as measuring tools (tape measures, calipers, micrometers, etc.)
- Previous forklift experience
- Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be a self-starter with good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills coupled with an eagerness to learn.
- Good teammate with a demonstrated ability to contribute to and cultivate a positive team environment.
- Must be able to work 12-hour continental shifts (4 days on, 4 days off; 84 hours bi-weekly; 7:00 – 7:00).
- Requires good mobility and involves considerable routine walking, standing for long periods (12 hours), bending, and heavy lifting up to a maximum of 50 lbs.
- Fast-paced environment where a considerable amount of sensory attention is required.
