Egg Truck Driver

Prestage Farms is a multi-generational family-owned and operated turkey and pork producer and processor. In this position you will drive a combination of vehicles identified as a poult trucks or egg trucks. Such vehicles are used to transport young turkey poults to the contract grower’s farm and hatching eggs from the company owned breeder farms back to the hatchery. Primary responsibilities may include the following, among others:

• Drives a truck with gross vehicle weight capacities of 29,000 lbs. or more in order to transport poults, eggs, and other materials to and from specified destinations such as contract grower farms, company owned / contract breeder farms, and other locations deemed necessary for expediting hatchery production.
• Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment such as gas, diesel fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes in order to ensure that vehicles are in proper safety and operating condition.
• Load and unload trucks as specified with the material in transport.
• Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
• Read maps and follow written and verbal instructions as well as geographic directions.
• Verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping documents.
• Maintain records such as vehicle logs and cargo records.
• Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicle.
• Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to both hatchery personnel and service representatives.
• Clean and disinfect vehicle after daily use.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and / or state laws, regulations, and agency rules. Maintain DOT logs and perform within the guidelines of all applicable laws.
• Participation in the company safety program.

Requirements

• Follow written and / or oral instructions
• Communicate information and ideas clearly, concisely, and in writing; read and understand information presented in writing
• Evaluate information against a set of standards
• Run, maneuver, navigate, or drive a vehicle
• Read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and / or procedures
• Valid Class A commercial drivers license
• Exposure to adverse, inclement, and varying weather conditions
• Risks which require the use of special safety precautions
• The position requires some physical exertions such as loading / unloading poult boxes and eggs; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, climbing, and standing
