The Director of Sustaining Engineering will lead the Sustaining Engineering to provide the engineering support to ensure a superb customer experience from commissioning to asset retirement.  The candidate will also lead RCAs and CARs to resolve issues that arise during production. The successful candidate will oversee a global team of employees and contractors.  

The desired candidate must possess strong leadership and technical competencies and the ability to oversee the full range of responsibilities of the Sustaining Engineer team.  These responsibilities include:

·               Providing technical support for field issues at the request of the Project & Services Team

·               Monitoring the performance of the deployed fleet of devices

·               Issuing condition-based maintenance recommendations for the deployed fleet of devices

·               Oversee the CAR for production and field issues.

·               Recommending and overseeing design changes released products

·               Managing component and software obsolescence

·               Overseeing the development of hardware/software/firmware updates to manage compliance needs of the deployed fleet of assets

Requirements

·         BS in engineering or computer science

·         Experience with one or more of the following: electrical engineering, systems engineering, power systems, power electronics, mechanical engineering, physics, materials science, reliability engineering, cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, communication systems, safety-critical software engineering or related disciplines.

·         Experience leading a product development or product support team, preferably for a safety-critical application

·         Expertise leading and improving processes across dispersed teams.

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills

·         Minimum of 10 years of progressively growing experience

·         Ability to inspire teams and partners.

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

·         Failure analysis experience on semiconductor devices

·         Field service experience for electrical products

·         Hands on expertise in troubleshooting PCBAs

·         Experience with component obsolescence

·         Experience with conducting RAMS analyses

·         Experience with designing reliability testing programs

Location

·         This role is located in the Smart Wires HQ, in Durham, NC. The position can be fulfilled remotely up to 2 days with the permission of the manager.

 

Travel Requirements

·         Occasional travel may be required to visit the factory (in St Petersburg, FL) and our external engineering resources including international travel to customer sites if needed.

Safety Requirements

Smart Wires team members are expected to comply with all safety requirements and regulations when working at Smart Wires facilities and visiting customer sites. This includes adherence to all state and local regulations. Additional safety precautions may include the use of PPE gear as needed per site requirements.
