VP Engineering (Head of Dev)

Responsibilities

• Recruit, develop, lead, and inspire a focused & scrappy engineering team around you
• Hands-on, willing to write code and lead by example
• Ensure everything stays up and is able to improve performance
• Manage code reviews and releases
• Understand which tech debt can accumulate and which needs to be burned and when — and communicate the reasons why to other stakeholders
• Shape the tech underpinning the product roadmap

An exceptional candidate will have:

• A love of movies - regularly going to the movies, in theaters and wanting to talk about it and make the experience better

• Skills to move into a CTO role - we are open to first time, hands-on CTO
• The ability to see themselves as a problem-solver
• Experience working in an early-stage startup and familiarity with the ambiguity and rapidly changing priorities that comes along with that
• A bias for action
• Experience leading engineering teams at a hyper-growth startup. You’ve built for scale and built an engineering team from 1 → ???
• Patience. So much patience!
• Experience being business-minded & collaborative. Spent time working with others outside of Product & Engineering and understands the needs of the business to understand which trade-offs can and cannot be made
• Humility & empathy. Mistakes are made (by you and others in the org), be open and honest about what happened and support teammates in moving forward
• Experience working with AI/ML and experience working with blockchain technologies
• Strong technology fundamentals and the ability to make high-impact decisions about long-term viability/scalability of technical solutions. Ability to communicate trade-offs to other stakeholders in the organization with varying degrees of technical fluency
• Little to no ego

Requirements

Technical Requirements

• 10+ years of proven professional experience working along the tech stack (backend, frontend, and mobile frameworks & database administration)
• Proven professional dev ops experience (Kubernetes, CI/CD)
• Proven professional Experience with AWS and GCP
