Full Job Description
We are seeking a Vice President of Beauty to act as a strategic lead directing high level media strategy and relations for a major beauty brand. The work this team produces drives major culturally focused campaigns requiring fully integrated strategic programming.
In conjunction with the MD, Beauty and other Vice President of the Beauty division, you will also be responsible for development, planning and execution of integrated and strategic marketing and communications programs for BPCM Beauty clients within the US market.
You will manage a small team and provide strategic counsel to clients, and management of accounts to ensure department profitability. This person will oversee and expand the company’s roster of clients in the beauty category. As a team lead, the VP will also help inspire and lead an incredible team that is eager to continue to grow and deliver.
Beyond being able to strategically develop and message compelling narratives about brands and products in the beauty space and having an enthusiasm for all things beauty.
Requirements
Client Management/Account Management
- As one of the senior-most client contacts, forge a strong relationship with brand stakeholders and personally manage select high-level client communications.
- Develop and implement communications and marketing strategies in conjunction with clients to increase brand awareness and brand identity with target consumers in major markets, ensuring consistency with the client’s global brand image across all channels.
- Comprehensively manage media outreach, communications, marketing programs for PR exposure, and influencer programs to enhance the clients’ brand image and position within the marketplace and the general public in relation to company priorities.
- Responsible for feature pitching efforts across relevant media categories including beauty/fashion, lifestyle, design and business titles.
- Special focus on collaborative, strategic narrative development and deployment with the goal of garnering the headlines and stories based on the narrative architecture.
- Work alongside BPCM senior management to create, implement and measure the success of BPCM’s brand’s communications and public relations activities, influencer programs, and materials including publications and media relations.
- Actively support business development, with the ability to successfully manage new business pitches from RFP to delivery with minimal involvement from senior management.
- Proactive relationship building with all key magazine and newspaper editors. Proactively maintain valid and productive relationships with national media.
- Develop and maintain rapport with cross-section media – traditional fashion/beauty, image, travel, lifestyle, affiliate/ecommerce and social media editors.
- Able to properly scope new clients and rescope existing clients to ensure proper guardrails are in place, as well as an ability to closely monitor scopes and push back on clients and possibly monetize, where/when applicable.
- Work positively with the press and representatives from various organizations and communities and always serve as an ambassador for BPCM in or out of office.
- Enhance public awareness and excitement around retail strategies of clients such as new store openings, retail events and charitable connections.
- Create and present budgets for activations for clients, implementing programs within budget.
Strategy Development
- Set result-driven media strategies in alignment with client objectives; identify and resolve issues when strategies aren’t working, or the situations change. Oversee and work closely with the influencer beauty team to do the same for their programming for clients.
- Define the brand strategies for BPCM clients across all media touch points to grow sales. Manage and monitor communications activity and results with national scope of both brand and corporate exposure.
- Sell in influencer services in addition to media services when pitching new business or in reaction to incoming requests for representation.
- Identify new/alternative program ideas or concepts that are responsive to market, client or competitive changes that support client objectives.
- Increase editorial coverage qualitatively as well as quantitatively to support the market.
- Develop editorial coverage under strategic initiatives and seasonal marketing focus with subsequent monitoring of quantitative results.
- Build on strategies and ensure articulation of the brand’s desired image and position, consistent communication of image and position to all constituencies, both internal and external.
- Manage the budgets and recommend spending priorities which maximize the return on investment.
Team Development:
- You will manage 4-5 direct reports while also playing a leadership role on a team of 15+ people including cross-functional internal teams within the influencer and experiential space.
- Coach, mentor, and motivate team to maximize each team member’s performance while driving accountability and fostering respect and collaboration.
- Responsible for the wellbeing, workload, performance, and profitability of the team, ensuring the ongoing needs of all Beauty clients are being met.
- Develop a vision for each account’s direction and work with team members to achieve goals.
- Be responsive to issues/concerns and have a proven ability to effective resolve internal challenges.
- Create time to nurture each member of the team and be available to help them grow their skills and contacts and aid them on account whenever required.
- Liaise with LA and London offices to work across shared accounts and to exchange ideas and promote BPCM globally.
- Set an example for the team, clients and industry at large of the professional delivery of BPCM and its impeccable standard of service.
- Experience hiring and retaining talent.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- B.A. in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or similar focus area
- You have 12+ years of directly relevant experience in a public relations agency or similar in-house position; 3 or more years of supervisory experience. Experience and/or knowledge of influencer programs.
Location: This role is based in our Brooklyn, NY office on a hybrid basis. We are seeking candidates who wish to work a hybrid schedule of WFH and a minimum of two days required per week in the NYC offices/in-person.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $130,000 - $150,000. Actual compensation is based on a range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and location.
Where a prospective employee will be paid within the compensation range listed above will depend on a number of factors including but not limited to the candidate's depth of experience and qualifications; the level of specialization the role requires; budgetary considerations, and the local market conditions that exist where the employee will be based.
