HousingPlus, Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to providing safe and stable housing solutions for individuals and families in need. We are currently seeking a motivated and compassionate Residential Aide to join our team on a Per Diem basis. As a Residential Aide, you will play a crucial role in supporting our residents and ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities.

 In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of our residents by providing them with the support and assistance they need. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and assisting with daily living activities.

Overall Responsibilities

The Senior Residential Aide serves as the supervisor of the Residential Aide staff in ensuring that team members perform their daily life skills activities, adhere to their program activities and objectives, and comply with rules and regulations; performs related work. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Depending upon the shift, the essential duties of the Senior Residential Aide include but are not limited to the following activities:
  • Performs the duties of a Residential Aide.
  • Works cooperatively with program staff at all levels to ensure quality of service.
  • Performs hourly inspections of the facility (interior/exterior) and surrounding perimeter; documents/reports any incidents to Program Director.
  • Assists in the planning and organization of recreational activities, events, and outings.  
  • Creates and produces monthly recreation calendars as well as flyers and posters publicizing events.
  • Announces recreational events at weekly house meetings.
  • Creates Residential Aide monthly and weekly coverage calendars for all facilities.
  • Provides crisis intervention by providing appropriate support and documentation as required, and shares accurate pertinent information with appropriate Case Manager and Senior staff.
  • Facilitate a secure and functional environment for the residents, staff, visitors and volunteers.
  • Implement established safety and security procedures to ensure compliance by residents, staff, etc.
  • Maintain daily log, visitor and resident sign-in logs, and other record keeping.
  • Turnover units to be ready for occupancy for new residents.
  • Acquire understanding of building features and potential problems.
  • Continuously observe all residents and develop the ability to recognize signs of troublesome behavior; immediately advise appropriate staff and follow up with the team, as appropriate.
  • Conduct and participate in fire drills and log observations; follow up as required.
  • Conduct routine and random inspections of resident units.
  • Conduct regular monitoring of residences.
  • Inform appropriate program staff of any issues that may affect the health and safety of residents and staff.
  • Attend staff meetings, house meetings, case conferences, and supervisory and in-service training sessions.
  • Ensure that all media recording devices are operating at all times and functioning properly.
  • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
  • Monitor and document residents' progress and behavior, reporting any concerns to the Program Director.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of residents and staff.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED plus work experience as outlined below.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in an emergency shelter.
  • Prior experience working in a similar role or in a related field preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Compassionate and patient, with a genuine desire to help others.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations with tact and empathy.
  • Basic knowledge of medication management and first aid/CPR.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

Certificates and Credentials

  • Fire Guard certification F-02 or Fire Safety Coordinator F-80
  • Valid NY State Driver’s License with a clean driving record, a plus
