Senior Editor, The Week US

The Week is looking for a Senior Editor, International, to come work in a fast-paced weekly print magazine. As the Senior Editor, you’ll scour the world’s media for the most interesting and evocative stories and commentaries. You’ll choose opinion pieces from foreign newspapers and magazines—many of them in other languages—that burrow into a problem or cultural trend that a particular country or region is grappling with. Then you’ll write them up for a U.S. audience, preserving the viewpoint of the authors in The Week’s characteristic pithy voice. Each week, you’ll also assemble several opinion pieces from one or more countries into longer pieces that give a range of takes on a particular topic.

What you'll be doing...

As the Senior Editor, you will be in charge of our weekly global map spread. Using your excellent and demonstrated news judgment, you’ll choose twelve of the most interesting and important international news stories and write them in The Week style on deadline. We’re looking for a gifted writer who can produce stories that make the reader want to jump up and tell a friend what they just learned. This is not a reporting job: The Week draws on the best of the U.S. and international news media. We filter and synthesize the media landscape to give our readers the whole expanse in one fun read.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve…

• An exceptional writer with an affinity for world politics and culture.
• Experience with international news or a global beat required.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Language skills strongly recommended but not required.

This is a Hybrid role from our New York office, working three days from the office, two from home
