The University of Mount Saint Vincent is seeking a part - time Security Supervisor Sergeant to join our Campus Safety and Security department. The Security Supervisor Sergeant will be responsible for guarding University's property, students, personnel, and guests against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular motorized and walking patrols of campus buildings and grounds to ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff, and to safeguard all College property.
- Enforce all access control policies and respond to unauthorized individuals on campus.
- Possess knowledge of emergency evacuation procedures and be prepared to implement them when necessary.
- Respond to fire safety violations on campus and ensure they are resolved in a safe manner.
- Coordinate with emergency personnel and assist first responders as needed during campus emergencies.
- Enforce parking policies, ensure safe traffic flow for motorists and pedestrians, and issue citations for violations, tracking them accordingly.
- Investigate all security-related incidents, whether reported or discovered, and provide comprehensive, professionally written reports to Security Administrators promptly.
- Ensure timely communication of any matters of concern to Security Administrators.
- Supervise and train subordinate security personnel, ensuring adherence to departmental policies. Initiate disciplinary procedures for policy violations and report them to Security Administrators.
- Proficiently utilize the CCTV system and report any issues to Security Administrators. Be familiar with programs like Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Be flexible with work schedules and available for extended hours as required by departmental needs. Remain accessible to department administrators during off-hours via phone.
- Coordinate ongoing programs such as vehicle maintenance, campus lighting, fire safety drills, and detex wand documentation.
- Plan and oversee security activities for large-scale events such as concerts and commencement, ensuring successful execution.
- In the absence of the Security Supervisor/Lieutenant, manage officer scheduling and ensure adequate post coverage for events. Complete payroll records and submit them to the finance department.
- Represent the Security Department in inter-departmental meetings when Security Administrators are absent.
- Additional duties may arise as circumstances require. Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred.
- One to three months of related experience and/or training.
- Experience working in non-profit organizations, ideally within institutions of higher education.
- Strong interpersonal, judgment, and analytical skills.
- New York State Certified Security Guard
- New York Fire Department Certified Fire Guard (F-04)
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and be on-call for emergencies as needed.
- Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions, sometimes for extended durations.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Able to operate with a high level of independence, accountability, and decision-making authority.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Benefits
The allotted hourly pay for the position is $27.00.
