Full Job Description
The world's largest asset class, debt, operates with the worst data.
Technology has revolutionized equity markets with electronic trading, quant algos and instantaneous news. However, in debt capital markets, the picture is completely different. It still behaves like it’s in the 1980s; trillions of dollars of trades are placed over the phone, news is slow, and corporate credit information is imperfect and scattered.
Our mission is to change this.
9fin's proprietary technology delivers fast and comprehensive financial, credit, legal & ESG analysis. Our clients are able to make faster, more informed decisions, win more business and most importantly, save time.
Our fast growing list of clients include 9 of the top 10 Investment Banks, leading Asset Managers, Hedge Funds and Law Firms.
What you’ll work on
Every day is different, but here’s an example of the kind of things you’ll work on:
- Building a network — You’ll identify the major players in the restructuring world and figure out how to collaborate with them on data
- Database — You’ll work with 9fin’s editorial, engineering, sales and product teams to build monthly/quarterly league tables capturing restructuring mandates in the US
- Reports — You’ll work with our journalists and analysts to create data-driven stories
Requirements
This role will be a great fit if you are:
- Experienced — 2+ years working in data journalism/business development/data/analysis or any other area of credit market, especially if that experience includes working with distressed debt
- Technical skills — Have proficiency in programming languages (i.e. Python or R), latest database softwares and other tools such as web crawling and making state and federal public-records requests
- Personable — Able to build relationships with key market participants and get them comfortable with sharing their data
- A team player — Comfortable working with journalists, analysts, engineers and product managers to build best-in-class league tables
- Detail-oriented — Able to understand nuance and hone in on important details, without losing sight of the bigger picture
