Music Teacher Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement music education curriculum for students on the autism spectrum
- Teach music theory, vocal skills, and instrument playing techniques
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet individual student needs and learning styles
- Plan and organize performances and recitals to showcase students' musical abilities
- Assess and track student progress, providing feedback and guidance for improvement
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate music education into interdisciplinary projects and activities
- Communicate regularly with parents/caretakers to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns

Requirements
Music Teacher Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or related field
- Teaching certification or equivalent experience in music education
- Experience working with children on the autism spectrum or other special needs populations
- Proficiency in playing one or more musical instruments
- Strong knowledge of music theory and ability to teach vocal and instrumental techniques
- Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with students with special needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment
- Flexible and adaptable teaching style to accommodate individual student needs
Location: West Hempstead, New York
- Monday - Friday / 8:00am - 4:00pm
- Occasional before and after school work hours at the discretion of the Administrative staff
- School / Classroom setting
- Candidates should be comfortable teaching online and in-person
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and in some cases may need to implement CPI procedures.
- Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and in some cases be able to lift a child.
