Full Job Description

Fotografiska

A destination to discover world-class photography, eclectic programming, elevated dining, and surprising new perspectives, in 2010 Fotografiska was founded in Stockholm and in late 2019 opened its newest outpost in a treasured, historic landmark building in NYC’s Flatiron District. The iconic NYC and Stockholm locations are complemented by expansion in Tallinn, and forthcoming museums in Berlin and Shanghai. Fotografiska’s goals are simple: to inspire a more conscious world through the power of photography, to bring people together, raise awareness and create positive change. The Museum showcases the greatest photographers, whether they’re emerging artists or already established internationally - it's a museum experience for the modern world.

Fotografiska | New York

Located at 281 Park Avenue South, the six-floor, 45,000 sq ft. historic landmark is home to an unexpected mix of world-class art, vibrant cultural programming, and exceptional dining experiences including Vēonika and our Members-only space, Chapel Bar. Our New York location has featured work from Ellen von Unwerth, Tawny Chatmon, Helene Schmitz, Adi Nes, and Anastasia Taylor-Lind in partnership with TIME Magazine, Andres Serrano, Pixie Lao, Adrienne Raquel, and others.

The Role

Fotografiska's Museum Associates are dynamic hospitality and sales professionals. This is a vital front-of- house role, working in an exciting environment that is redefining the museum experience as a unique creative space to gather and share inspired moments. Museum Associates are expected to actively drive revenue – using sophisticated sales techniques and genuine engagement to sell admission tickets, events, memberships and retail merchandise - encouraging guests to come early, stay late, have fun, feast and enjoy drinks with friends and loved ones, while enjoying the breadth of exceptional photographic exhibitions on view and depth of programming on offer. The position encompasses a wide range of duties, including: greeting guests, ticket sales for admission and events, retail sales, membership cultivation, providing support for exhibition floors and programming, and undertaking various duties as assigned. Our Museum Associates build community, bring people together, maintain a positive and dynamic energy in the museum, drive sales, and embody the role of brand ambassador, encouraging our guests to immerse themselves in our museum experience for the modern world.

This is one of the most visible and connective roles within Fotografiska, and represents the museum with warmth, professionalism, grace, and an innate understanding of our vision in every interaction. Fotografiska’s team is lean, operates with a mindset of “no task is too big or too small,” and sets an exceptional service standard. Museum Associates must be receptive to new information, in a dynamic and constantly evolving environment, be nimble in navigating through ambiguity, and be ready to support all departments in meeting the needs of the museum in a period of ambitious growth.

This is a contracted temporary role until September 2024.

Requirements

  • Consistently provide a high level of thoughtful hospitality and professional, friendly and engaging service - building community and lasting relationships with members and museum guests.

  • Charismatically and articulately work front-of-house, as ambassadors of the Fotografiska brand.
  • Be informed on current exhibitions, event programming, retail inventory, membership offering and sales promotions - and share their knowledge and enthusiasm with guests.
  • Actively drive sales across the business - including museum admission tickets, event program tickets, membership, retail and food & beverage sales. Optimize conversion rates and cross- promotion. Handle transactions with accuracy, security and integrity. Ambitiously strive to meet and exceed shared KPIs and sales goals
  • In pursuit of a seamless and integrated guest experience, work cross-functionally in versatile capacities, including: guest experience, retail, sales, exhibitions, and programming. Rotating duties may include: museum greeter/ concierge, exhibition gallery attendant, coat check attendant, event programming staffing, ticketing associate, membership associate, retail merchandise sales and/or stockroom associate.
  • Connect retail merchandise sales to current exhibitions and programming. Maintain displays on The Shop floor, restock and ticket merchandise. Participate in retail inventory stock counts.
  • Respond professionally and timeously to inquiries via phone and email, and actively converse with our community about exhibitions, membership, programming, retail and other offerings.
  • Support a wide variety of dynamic Programming events - including talks, workshops, screenings, parties, performances and exhibition openings. Be engaged, energetic, adaptable, and professional in working events, interacting with VIPs and graciously handling crowd management.
  • Apply meticulous attention to detail in the exhibition floors, in capacity of gallery roamer.

We are looking to connect with candidates who bring:

  • 1+ years experience or a strong interest in working across multiple platforms on a regular basis (such as retail, memberships, ticket operations, customer service, programming and exhibitions).
  • Outstanding customer service skills, an exemplary guest-orientated approach, strong sales skills, and the ability to think creatively around customer service situations that result in positive outcomes.
  • Appreciation of photography, art, fashion, lifestyle trends, NYC cultural events, hospitality, creative industries and inspired design is a plus.
  • Ability to lift 30lbs and agility receiving, unpacking, organizing, and pricing retail merchandise
  • Comfortable standing long hours: please note that all reasonable accommodations will be made for anyone interested in the role and we encourage applications with differing abilities to apply
  • Given the diversity of our museum guests, candidates who are multilingual are warmly welcomed, though it is not required for success in the position or with our teams
  • Available to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.
