Position Summary
We Mean Business Coalition is a nonprofit group working with the world’s most influential businesses to act on climate change. Together, we catalyze business and policy action to halve emissions by 2030 and accelerate an inclusive transition to a net-zero economy.
The Operations team is essential to driving the success of the Coalition. The team is working on providing operational support to the organization and ensuring the processes in place are inclusive and aligned with the strategy. The Finance Manager (Controller) will report to the Director of Operations. They will perform complex financial functions and activities.
The Finance Manager will be responsible for the monthly closing process, financial analysis & reporting, fund management, internal controls, accounting, and be a financial resource for the Director of Operations as well as the CEO. A successful candidate must be very detail-oriented, as well as a strategic thinker; must have effective communication and organizational skills.
Requirements
Responsibilities & Tasks
- Develop financial procedures and practices, including designation of accounting codes, templates, systems, and other tools to support a healthy, sustainable financial infrastructure.
- Manage the financial and accounting functions and maintain responsibility for all financial processing and reconciliation, reporting, and cash management/disbursement.
- Manage and complete month end and year-end financial close.
- Focus on streamlining financial operations to affect greater efficiencies.
- Assists in the preparation and review of the annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls across the Coalition, including training all staff on protocols and procedures.
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Coalition’s audit firm and outside accountants, including coordination, preparation, and collection of audit information.
- Provide financial reports to other departments as needed, including grant reports, monthly variance analysis, and budgets.
- Manage the organization’s banking relationships and cash position.
- Drafts and/or reviews vendor contracts, memorandums of understanding, and grant agreements.
- Tracks and monitors contractual obligations and ensures compliance and timely payments.
- Assist Director of Finance in financial reporting to Management Team and Board of Directors.

- Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to be able to effectively pass information across organization.
- Ability to work as part of a team split in various regions in the world.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills are required, including Excel.
- Must be able to display an elevated level of adaptability and flexibility in any given situation.
- Must be meticulous in handling assignments and be able to pay attention to details.
Experience & Education
- A bachelor's degree in business management, accounting or finance is required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 5-8 years of relevant experience in a nonprofit business unit with strong knowledge in fund accounting.
- Proven experience working within GAAP and applying GAAP principles to accounting. practices. Experience with nonprofit GAAP required; experience or knowledge of IFRS standards preferred.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online or other accounting systems required.
- Experience in young or start-up environments preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
