Grounds

The Grounds position at Gersh Autism is crucial in ensuring the outdoor areas around our facilities are well-maintained, safe, and inviting for our students and staff. This role involves various tasks, including landscaping, maintenance of outdoor equipment, and ensuring that all outdoor spaces provide an optimal environment for our community.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Maintain and beautify grounds, including lawns, gardens, trees, and other landscaping features.
• Perform routine checks and maintenance on outdoor equipment and tools.
• Ensure walkways, pathways, and entrances are clear and safe for staff and students.
• Monitor the health of plants and landscaping features, applying fertilizers and pesticides as needed.
• Assist with snow removal and salting of walkways during winter months.
• Interact with staff to address grounds-related concerns and requests.
• Maintain inventory of landscaping supplies and equipment, requisitioning additional materials as necessary.
• Collaborate with other maintenance staff to ensure the facilities are well-kept and functional.
• Work responsibly and safely with tools and equipment, following established safety protocols.
• Help in setting up outdoor events, such as picnics or community gatherings, as needed.

Position may require occasional evening or weekend hours based on events and weather conditions.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Prior experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance is an asset.
• Ability to use landscaping tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Basic knowledge of plants, landscaping, and horticulture is a plus.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Working Conditions:

• Position primarily outdoors with exposure to varying weather conditions.
• Monday - Friday, with flexibility for some evening or weekend work.
