ORGANIZATION

The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School (EMNRBS) is a charter, co-ed, tuition-free high school. With a total student body of 440 boys and girls, we seek to foster a unique, innovative, hands-on learning environment. This school is the first specialty high school in the entire country for basketball, but NOT for the PLAYING of the game. Our Founding Trustee, former NBA Commissioner David Stern, often said, “A Ball and a Book Can Change the World.”Our community promotes a commitment to excellence, social responsibility, high achievement, and rigorous programs that empower and inspire students and those who facilitate their learning. OPPORTUNITY

Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School (EMNRBS) seeks passionate, energetic, and dedicated teachers to join our school. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching a High School Physical Education curriculum, an enthusiasm for project-based instruction and integrated curriculum, a passion for student engagement, a willingness to grow and develop pedagogically, and a passion for working with adolescents in a community with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. 

The PE teacher will develop curriculum, create lesson plans, facilitate physical activities, and assess student performance to promote healthy lifestyles and lifelong fitness habits.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities of the Physical Education Teacher will include:

• Assist in establishing a culture of high academic expectations and behavior
• Organize and supervise physical activities, games, and sports both indoors and outdoors, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
• Provide individualized support and guidance to students with diverse abilities, learning styles, and fitness levels, adapting instruction and activities as needed to meet their needs.
• Prepare rigorous and engaging lessons that integrate basketball-related career paths
• Foster collaboration with colleagues to improve practices throughout the school and share best practices
• Develop and plan curriculum aligned to New York State standards
• Support the social/emotional development of our students by implementing SEL techniques and/or mindfulness curriculum throughout the class.
• Maintain ongoing parent communication.
• Serve as an advisor to a small group of students and deliver Advisory lessons.
• Participate in the self-evaluation process for personal and professional growth.
• Actively participate in professional development activities and work closely with the school leadership team.
• Contribute to the professional community by identifying needs and developing solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in the content area or related field required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• New York State Certification preferred.
• Deep knowledge of the New York State Framework and Standards in the content area.
• Experience with active learning techniques.
