The American Institute of Chemical Engineers invites applicants to join its Center for Hydrogen Safety (CHS), a global non-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting hydrogen safety and best practices worldwide, including safe handling and use of hydrogen across applications in the energy transition. Position Summary
We are currently seeking a Director to join our CHS team. The successful individual will have technical hydrogen/hydrogen safety expertise, project and personnel management skills, and communication savvy in implementing a wide variety of programs and activities.
Requirements
Under the direction of the Executive Director of CHS, the Director will enable CHS to achieve its objectives through the following activities:
- Develop hydrogen safety technical content and respond to technical questions on hydrogen safety topics
- Identify, develop, and implement impactful hydrogen safety resources
- Develop and lead CHS working groups and workshops (including hydrogen hubs)
- Present on hydrogen safety at webinars, conferences, and stakeholder outreach meetings
- Lead virtual and in-person hydrogen safety training
- Provide technical hydrogen safety support for the development and revision of eLearning courses and materials
- Direct and support conference organizing committees to ensure the topics focus on applied hydrogen safety and are organized in a logical and cohesive manner
- Manage a hydrogen safety award process
- Develop grants and crowd-funding opportunities, and work with donating organizations to receive and disburse funds
- Manage other subordinate CHS team members
- Routinely connect with CHS members through routine voice, email/virtual, and in-person contact
- Support the CHS governance committees and their requested activities
- Act on behalf of the CHS Executive Director when directed to do so, including providing direction to other CHS staff, responding to AIChE management CHS Board requests, etc.
- Assist the CHS Executive Director with identifying and prioritizing projects, annual budget planning, and CHS strategic planning and its implementation Other activities as determined by CHS Executive Director
- Interact with AIChE sales, marketing, communications, and customer service
Skills
- Deep knowledge and proficiencies in the principles of hydrogen safety
- Deep knowledge of the hydrogen industry and associated technologies
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems, manage systems and data, and suggest appropriate solutions
- Ability to manage personnel
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
- Strong listening skills, planning skills, attention to detail, and decision-making skills

Location & Travel
- This position can be either at our NYC Global Office or be located remotely
- Travel is expected 4-8 times a year
Education & Work Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
- Minimum of 8+ years’ experience
- Experience working with subject matter experts, volunteers, faculty, and management
Benefits
While this is a remote role, this role requires 10% to 15% travel after the initial training period.
Compensation Full-Time - $130,000- $175,000
