Audio Producer - New Climate and Energy Program

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The Producer is a critical role on a small team at Magnificent Noise developing and producing Season 1 of a new podcast about climate and energy. 

This role is temporary and forecasted to last five months at 30-40 hours per week. This position is benefits eligible.

Top candidates for this role will demonstrate curiosity, a strong work ethic, exceptional journalistic and storytelling instincts, and exercise creativity in their production technique. The role requires a creative and inclusive approach to storytelling and an ability to shape the vision and execution of ambitious podcast projects. The ideal candidate is a talented writer/storyteller who has a proven track record for innovation, problem-solving, and producing high-quality narrative content, and is also experienced working in a deadline-oriented environment. The Producer will be part of a dynamic team, which requires flexibility, patience, and the ability to complete tasks independently. They reliably create original and enterprising work in every episode they produce.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in editorial planning of podcast episodes, including outlining program elements, and selection of contributors and guests.
• Work as part of a team to produce and edit audio tape, stories, and segments.
• Collaborate with other producers and editors at Magnificent Noise and our partners to ensure the depth and breadth of Magnificent Noise’s production and storytelling aesthetics and standards. 
• Help coach host(s) and guests who may not have much experience with podcasting. 
• “Think deep” and produce work that goes beyond conventional expectations.
• Book contributors, guests, and interviews, as well as handle recording logistics and remote studio and location management.
• Record interviews and ambience at on-location recordings. Operate recording equipment, know and practice proper mic placement, and have an exceptional ear for “good tape.”
• Edit audio segments and do basic digital audio lay-up.
• Coordinate some aspects of production, post-production, and program distribution.
• Other duties as assigned.

LOCATION

Our preference for this position is for someone from the greater New York area working in our Manhattan office 2-3 days a week, but will consider a fully-remote employee with exceptional skill.

Requirements

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• At least 3-5+ years of radio/audio production and thorough knowledge of writing and audio production
• Deep interest and knowledge in a wide range of subject areas. Interest in climate and energy is a must; knowledge is a plus. 
• Knowledge of podcasting and digital audio industry.
• Must have a strong understanding of how to operate audio hardware, software, and facilities.
• Demonstrated writing ability.
• Demonstrated digital editing expertise using ProTools audio editing software.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure. 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Thrives in a team-focused environment, and understands how to balance competing priorities from multiple stakeholders.

Benefits

EXPECTED SALARY RANGE

The salary band for a Producer at Magnificent Noise is $90,000 USD to $120,000 USD. This translates into an hourly rate for this position of $49.45 to $65.93.

Full time employees are elegible for benefits that include health care and 401k matching.
