About Seton College

Seton College is a new two-year college division of the University of Mount Saint Vincent that will offer an associate’s degree for 100 students in its inaugural year who have been historically underserved, who may require additional academic support, and who are motivated for post secondary success annually beginning in the 2024–25 academic year. The program’s goal is to prepare students to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program or to begin their professional careers. Seton College students will study on the Riverdale Campus of UMSV and have full access to UMSV’s facilities and programs.

Job Description

The Associate Dean for Student Success is responsible for leading all student life and wrap-around support initiatives within Seton College, the two-year college, including community & belonging, student development, retention, and support for basic needs. As a core member, the Associate Dean of Student Success and Engagement works closely with the Dean of Seton College in the administration of Seton College, including a strong working relationship with the university's existing Student Life and Career Education professionals. The Associate Dean for Student Success and Engagement of Seton College is a salary exempt position with a 12-month work schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs and coordinates student programs and initiatives which are designed to assist and support students in achieving academic and personal success.
  • Responsible for all policies related to institutional compliance and Title IX.
  • Develops and coordinates policies and procedures relative to all student activities; oversees annual production of community standards and other documents.
  • Maintains a comprehensive student support/accountability system that incorporates elements of care and accountability.
  • Coordinates training and education for college staff and faculty and external units to ensure proper understanding of and connection to resources provided by the college.
  • Works with the staff, student groups and other members of the college community in developing co-curricular programming ensuring integration with the academic life of the institution and encouraging student personal growth and development.
  • Helps establish a student culture where diversity is acknowledged and celebrated and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership.
  • Responds to student crises and provides information to and referrals for students, faculty and staff on a variety of student-related issues.
  • Collaborates and consults with divisional and cross-campus colleagues to assist with a wide range of programs, initiatives and events.
  • Coordinates and provides oversight, support and guidance for college's special events, such as town hall meetings.
  • Attends student organization and other events as necessary (includes nights/weekends).
  • Supports campus ministry and spirituality programming within the college.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Collect and compile data required for regulatory and accrediting bodies;
  • Participate in budget development and when appropriate, approve departmental budget items;
  • Participate in University-wide events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required (Ph.D./Ed.D. preferred) and ten years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration required.
  • Direct experience working with underrepresented students and with campus activities and programming to support and nurture the whole student.
  • Knowledge of NYS Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (H.E.O.P.) and other college access programs, strong interpersonal communication skills, experience in dealing with complex student issues, along with leadership and mentoring are required.
  • Knowledge of higher education policies, operations and procedures, particularly with regard to student affairs/student development.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills.
  • Budget management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and social justice.
  • Possess superior writing, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills, and possess the ability to facilitate collaborative group processes that gather the input of professionals, faculty members, and key college administrators, all within a professional setting.
  • Knowledge of social service systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evening and weekend hours.

The allotted salary for this position is $110,000.
