Position Summary:
- Job Title: Reforestation Cost Estimator (SME)
- Full Time or Part Time: FT/PT as needed

- Compensation: $43-$47/hour
- Travel/Location: Onsite - Santa Fe, NM
Mission of Role/Position Summary:
The Senior Reforestation Specialist will play a critical role in assessing and calculating commercial timber loss value after a disaster. This role involves conducting detailed evaluations, providing accurate loss assessments, and developing strategies for reforestation and mitigation to ensure sustainable forest recovery.
Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

- Calculate commercial timber loss value
- Provide accurate loss assessments
- Coordinating with various affected/interested landowners to ensure the most effective and efficient use of funds, as well as partnering entities responsible for the funds
- Oversight of reforestation-related contracts and other agreements.
- Manage multiple projects/tasks under tight deadlines.
- Interpret and advise on insurance and public assistance regulations, laws and policies.
- All other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to understand complex insurance policy language, including exclusions, endorsements, and coverage limits.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and knowledge and ability to explain policy and regulations to claimants, FEMA Navigators, and other stakeholders;
- Proficiency in using claims management software, databases, and other technology tools that facilitate claim processing, documentation, and communication.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May have lead responsibilities within projects or small teams depending on function with senior level support.
Expected Hours of Work:
Schedule may vary. Work on an as needed basis (no guarantee of hours),but may be required to support up to 40 hours per week with an additional 20 hours per week of overtime to accommodate ebbs and flows in claims. Work on evenings and weekends may be required. Dependability and punctuality are paramount.
Travel Requirements:
- Work onsite is expected for this position. Remote work may be available.
- Ability to travel to surrounding impacted areas.
- Must be willing to travel and deploy to client sites for extended periods of time.
Physical Demands:
- Mobility required on-site with clients.
- Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time if needed.
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs. repetitively throughout the day and as needed.
- Physical requirements may include climbing ladders, crawling under buildings and maneuvering through steep or rough terrain at high altitudes and through construction sites for prolonged periods.
Working Environment:
- Emergency management consultants may work in an office or home environment or be deployed to the field which may require working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Work may be on-site with clients ex: EOC, hospital, debris sites or local government buildings.
Requirements
Experience/Education Required:
- Must have a Bachelor's degree with 10 years of experience in disaster fieldwork or in field of expertise; a graduate level degree or professional registration with 5 years of experience in disaster fieldwork or in field of expertise; or 15 years of experience in disaster fieldwork or in field of expertise.
- Experience calculating commercial timber loss value.
- Must meet state licensure, professional registration, or certification requirements where applicable.
- Must be proficient in generating general and technical reports, briefings, correspondence, and compliance documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Must have experience with cost adjustments.
- Experience with documentation review.
- Thorough knowledge of PA eligibility, law, regulations, and policies, and familiarity with other FEMA Programs (e.g., Individual Assistance, Hermit’s Peak Program, etc.).
- Experience utilizing Xactimate.
Experience/Education Preferred:
- Damage Assessment: Proficient in assessing property, flooding, and/or fire-related damage accurately, which involves understanding the extent of damage, the required repairs, required documentation, and the associated costs.
- Use of Technology: Proficiency in using claims management software, databases, and other technology tools that facilitate claim processing, documentation, and communication.
- Local resident to Santa Fe, NM.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Additional Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsored visa is required. We are not able to employ those located outside of the US.
- Must pass company and any applicable client background check and reference check upon offer of employment.
