The 846 Test Squadron (846 TS) is seeking a full-time entry-level Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform equipment servicing and preventative maintenance for the Holloman High Speed Test Track (HHSTT). The 846 TS/TGTOT Element Chief will provide guidance and oversight of the position.
In this position you will serve as a mechanic performing hard physical labor that requires you to stoop, bend, pull and push while also handling upwards of 50lbs in an outdoor environment with the end goal that will provide precision rail alignment for all sled tests. The 846 Test Squadron works with DoD and private industry customers to design, develop and execute high speed rocket sled ground tests specifically designed to simulate selected portions of the flight environment in support of the development of weapon systems and other flight hardware. The 846 TS is unique in that every test utilizes a single test resource: the Holloman High Speed Test Track. Moreover, the 846 TS is a "one stop shop," where all aspects of a test project are carried out in-house, including mechanical and instrumentation engineering design; sled, instrumentation & concrete target fabrication; test setup & teardown; data collection, analysis & reporting; as well as continual rail maintenance. This “Heavy Equipment Mechanic” has the overall responsibility to ensure that 846TS Heavy Equipment, including but not limited to, cranes, backhoes, dozers, graders and loaders is mission ready and meets the “Original Equipment Manufacturer” (OEM) specifications for operations and safety.
This position is located at Holloman, AFB, NM.
Requirements
Essential Functions:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will:
· Perform servicing of all equipment fluids, filters, tire air pressures.
· Remove and replace tires including transportation to and from off-base repair facilities.
· Participate with equipment operators to perform safety and functional checks and diagnose equipment systems error faults.
· Perform “Preventative Maintenance” (PM) on electrical, hydraulic and powered systems.
· Assist OEM repair and service technicians when major repairs are needed.
· Document service and inspections on equipment forms and maintain a PM database.
· Assist Industrial Equipment Mechanic with major servicing projects.
· Work with and motivate team members across diverse functional areas while keeping good morale.
· Respond effectively to rapidly changing situations.
· Maintain assigned service vehicle and tools.
Education and Experience Qualification:
· Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Strong understanding of diesel engine mechanics, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipment components.
• Must have ability to work within specific procedures and processes of the Air Force Test Center and DoD regulations and equipment OEM guidelines.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
• Expertise in using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Exemplify a dedication to achieving the mission of the 846 TS as well as high standards of quality and excellence in performing the duties.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while being able to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
• Must have an active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance or be able to obtain and maintain and Secret clearance.
• Work in extreme outdoor elements both hot and cold.
• Use a variety of tools that weigh upwards of 50 lbs.
• When required, work weekends and unusual shifts to accommodate 846 TS missions.
• Must have a NM Driver’s License.
• US Citizenship required.
