Full Job Description
This part- time position serves as the Grounds Maintenance staff member for the Council of Albuquerque Garden Clubs, Inc. (CAGC) Garden Center. The incumbent will perform general maintenance duties for the entire exterior grounds of the Garden Center, ensuring they remain clean, safe, visually attractive and appealing to customers and users. The individual in this position reports to the President of the Council; however, supervision of day-to-day tasks may be delegated to the Garden Manager. The Operations Manager may also communicate guidance from the Council President. The incumbent is expected to establish and maintain professional relationships with members of the Council leadership team, Council employees, club and Society members, and volunteers in order to complete requested maintenance tasks and keep requesters apprised of the status. Work in this role is to be completed primarily during the center’s regular hours of operation, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and may also include additional hours as negotiated with and approved by the Council President or his/her delegate. The number of hours worked weekly will vary and could range from one to two per week to 20 or more hours per week. Any alternative schedules or additional hours must be discussed with and approved by the Council President. In the case of emergencies, alternative hours may be approved via text or email.
- Perform tasks to maintain the vitality of the grounds, including lawn mowing, edging, hedge trimming, fertilizing, composting, mulching, and trash removal.
- Perform seasonal grounds duties, including but not limited to cleaning gutters, cutting grass, edging sidewalks, maintaining open pathways, and snow and ice removal from walkways.
- Maintain garden structures, ponds, and other water features.
- Maintain parking lots in a safe, clean, and fully functioning manner.
- Safely operate the equipment necessary to maintain the grounds, e.g., mowers, hedge trimmers, edgers, leaf blowers, power washing equipment, and pumps.
- Maintain all garden tools and equipment.
- Duties may include assisting the staff gardener, when requested, with moving garden materials and products from place to place.
- In the absence of a staff gardener, perform cleanup and other grounds upkeep tasks including leaf raking, deadheading, pruning, weeding, and planting.
- Maintain open communication to keep supervisor apprised of status of routine and assigned tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of basic landscape maintenance concepts, e.g., soil augmentation, minor irrigation repairs, watering techniques, and weed control.
- Ability to safely operate grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and move equipment and materials from place to place.
- Physical stamina and ability to stand, walk and kneel for long periods of time and the ability to climb ladders.
- Willingness to work outside during all seasons and at odd hours when weather dictates.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Benefits
Salary will rage form $14 to $16 per hour based on experience.
