MAJOR FUNCTION
- Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, plans and coordinates patient services with those of the medical and administrative systems. Participates as a member of the management team in planning, policy formulation and decision making with particular reference to the role, functions and operations of the Center's patient services. Monitor and manage NJIIS, patient medical equipment, reporting of communicable disease, sterilization and other regulatory agencies requirements and administrative services. Performs related work including, but not limited to, ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for managing, directing the day to day services of the following: Nursing, Clinical Lab, and clinical aspects of Satellite facilities
- Defines and maintains the standards of nursing practice within the Center.
- Assists in the development of policies and procedures that govern nursing services and other services under his/her position control.
- Assists in collaborating with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved patient care and staff development.
- Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.
- Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
- Evaluates the performance of personnel with recommendations for appropriate action on an on-going and annual basis.
- Identifies educational in-services/seminars that would benefit the clinical personnel, and keeps abreast of current programs and training issues which are nursing related.
- Monitor log books, projects, and ensures that staff persons are complying with the policies and procedures of the organization.
- Maintains on-going awareness of patient flow and ensures the proper scheduling of patients.
- Monitor panel of patients and to ensure same day access and continuity for the panel of established patients managed.
- Collaborate with the clinical teams and works with the clinical team which may include a nurse, medical assistant and receptionist to manage the patient panel.
- Evaluates the quality of staffing and services within the goals of the Center.
- Assist in team staffing within various units and as needed to maintain patient flow and provide optimal patient care.
- Completes appropriate nursing intervention according to recommendations of provider including, but not limited to medications, immunizations, tests, specimen collection, therapeutic treatments, etc.
- Notify patients to bring appropriate documents for registration and verify Insurance eligibility when scheduling patient appointments.
- Adhere to scheduling rules for scheduling of appointments confirmation calls and follow-up for no show including DNKA.
- Participate with population management in collaboration with the clinical and care teams as directed by using multiple templates tools: including preventive templates, health maintenance template, CEM, Business Objects reports, UDS reports and Performance Improvement Projects, Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance and any other plans or process to improve patient outcomes.
- Encourages and supports research and improvement studies that can make meaningful contributions to the quality and economy of patient services.
- In-puts data into various computer programs including the electronic medical record,
- Greets all patients/clients/customers via telephone or directly in a personal and professional manner. Promotes positive patient relations.
- Participates in other assigned duties as designated by the Director of Nursing or the Chief Medical Officer.
- Assist staff with Spanish interpretation if bilingual in Spanish.
- Attend job related training as mandated.
- Meets dress code standards; appearance in neat and clean.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
- Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled.
- Attends a minimum of 10 staff meetings annually; reads monthly staff meeting minutes.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Requirements
- REQUIREMENTS: · Pass proficiency testing in Spanish (if bilingual) within 30 days of notification of testing requirement. · Ambulatory Surgery Technician Certification is required for employees who sterilize surgical and medical instruments. The employees who are required to sterilize instruments must pass the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, INC. (CBSPD), Ambulatory Surgery Technician Exam within 6 months of hire. · Complete Care Coordination and Transitional Management Course. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: · Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, preferably a Master's Degree in Nursing Administration. · Five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse which should include a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience. LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS: · Must hold current and valid New Jersey Professional Nursing License. · Must hold current certification in Basic Life Support. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER (KSAO’s) · Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. · Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. · Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. · Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. · Accountable to the Director of Nursing for all phases of activities. · Advises, consults, and coordinates with: o Chief Medical Officer - Efficient and effective clinical functioning, staffing, policy and procedure. o Chief Operating Officer or designee - Staffing and staff development, policy and procedure, facility related issues, safety and licensure.
