Job Description: Production Planner
Function: Develop, implement, and manage production plans for assigned product lines, from build plan creation to product invoicing, ensuring alignment with monthly revenue targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and release production requirements to support the revenue plan, determining the optimal frequency and quantities of top-level assemblies and subassemblies for cost-effective production.
- Develop and release a product planning schedule based on MRP (Material Requirements Planning) demands, preparing rolling three-month status sheets that identify all shop and purchase orders needed for production.
- Lead weekly status review meetings with the purchasing team to ensure purchase order deliveries align with production demands.
- Proactively communicate between meetings to ensure purchase orders continue to align with shop and customer order demands.
- Adjust shop order due dates and quantities as needed to accommodate changes in production, overhaul, or spare part requirements, ensuring net supply/demand remains positive.
- Print and ensure the latest revisions of shop order pick lists and work instructions to support production scheduling.
- Maintain daily communication with shop supervisors and managers to prioritize work-in-progress orders and ensure on-time delivery of customer orders.
- Ensure all shop orders are properly closed when completed, with all material and labor costs issued before closure.
- Release First Article Inspection (FAI) shop orders when parts have not been produced in two years or when no valid FAI is on file.
- Ensure project and common supply and demand alignment.
- Communicate with Contracts when firm orders are entered, ensuring previous forecasts are canceled when necessary.
- Monitor the aging of shop orders, collaborating with production supervisors if orders exceed 90 days.
- Work with purchasing to resolve Material Review Board (MRB) issues promptly and ensure alternate supply sources are arranged when parts cannot be reworked.
- Release cycle count sheets to the stockroom daily or weekly to support the monthly/yearly cycle count plan based on part classification (ABCD).
- Reconcile cycle count variances daily and submit final results to the materials manager within the first week of each fiscal month.
- Review, approve, and implement assigned Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Use written and oral communication to resolve and implement changes to shop or purchase orders as required to maintain production schedules.
- Perform other related duties as necessary.
Contacts: Work closely with all departments and levels of management within the organization.
Required Qualifications:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in production planning, covering the full cycle from design through procurement, fabrication, assembly, testing, packaging, and shipping.
- Extensive experience in total product planning, including working with BOMs (Bills of Materials) and coordinating with procurement for materials sourced from external vendors.
- Strong ability to schedule tasks and time-phase production plans.
- Proficiency in ERP systems such as IFS or equivalent.
- College degree or APICS Certification (CPIM) preferred.
