About Us  

Chelsea Hospitality Group (CHG) is a family-owned hospitality company based in New Jersey, dedicated to creating world-class food and beverage experiences. CHG’s latest project in Morristown, NJ involves managing multiple food and beverage outlets within a sustainably built, mixed-use property. These outlets include a ground-floor restaurant, conference catering, pantry services, and pop-up concepts.  

Job Overview: 

As an essential member of the management team at The Morris Proper, the Kitchen Manager will oversee the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring the delivery of high-quality dishes while maintaining efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This role is responsible for kitchen scheduling, inventory management, maintaining operating costs, and collaborating with the purchaser to ensure optimal procurement practices. Additionally, the Kitchen Manager will contribute to menu development, recipe management, and yield calculations to guarantee consistency and excellence in every dish. 

What You’ll Do: 

Operational Management: 

  • Oversee kitchen scheduling to ensure alignment with labor cost goals. 
  • Maintain par levels for ingredients and supplies, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in inventory. 
  • Collaborate with the purchaser to manage pricing, place orders, and select high-quality products. 
  • Track and control operating costs, including food and labor, to meet budget goals. 
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, keeping kitchen and storage areas clean and organized. 
  • Conduct regular inventory audits to optimize ordering practices and minimize waste. 

 

Menu & Recipe Development: 

  • Assist in the creation and development of menus, ensuring a balance of creativity, seasonality, and cost efficiency. 
  • Manage and update recipes, including precise ingredient yields and portion control. 
  • Document and standardize all recipes and procedures to ensure consistency. 
  • Work closely with the culinary team to test new menu items and maintain plating standards. 
  • Support special events, corporate dining programs, and private dining experiences as needed. 

 

Staffing and Safety: 

  • Assist in training, scheduling, and supervising kitchen staff to maintain high morale and productivity. 
  • Ensure safe work practices, compliance with safety regulations, and proper use of equipment. 
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring staff follows sanitary food handling guidelines. 
  • Attend and contribute to set meetings, delivering on assigned goals and deliverables. 
  • Approve time and attendance for payroll and document personnel transactions. 
  • Report suspicious incidents, injuries, and safety hazards promptly. 
  • Practice safe work habits at all times to prevent injury to self and others. 

 

Leadership and Development: 

  • Foster a positive work environment by mentoring staff and promoting morale. 
  • Ensure continuous improvement by coaching and developing the kitchen team. 
  • Contribute to management meetings and provide input on operational improvements. 

Requirements

What We Need From You: 

  • Proven experience managing a kitchen in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong knowledge of culinary best practices, food safety standards, and kitchen operations. 
  • Experience in menu development, food presentation, and portion control. 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams. 
  • Effective decision-making skills, with a focus on profitability and efficiency. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed. 
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to maintain high-quality standards under pressure. 
  • A passion for leading and mentoring kitchen staff to achieve excellence. 

 

Minimum Education, Experience, & Physical Requirements: 

  • High School diploma required; culinary school or equivalent experience preferred. 
  • At least 3 years of managerial kitchen experience. 
  • ServeSafe certification required or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. 
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. 
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs., and being exposed to varying temperatures.
