Full Job Description

Garden State Growers is a family-owned greenhouse and outdoor production operation on over 500 acres specializing in the growth and distribution of wholesale perennials, annuals, ground cover, vegetables, and varied seasonal offerings. We serve large retailers who sell plants in sizable quantities.

As the Human Resources/Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of the Human Resources function and Payroll Processes within the organization. You will be responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and programs to support the company's goals and objectives. This role requires a deep understanding of HR best practices, strong leadership skills, and the ability to effectively collaborate with employees at all levels.  This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage payroll operations efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • HR Strategy and Planning:
    • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the organization's overall objectives.
    • Continuously evaluate and update HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Talent Acquisition and Management
    • Directly involved in the recruitment process, including sourcing candidates and scheduling interviews.
    • Onboarding of new employees into the organization utilizing the HRIS.
    • Manage employee performance appraisal processes and provide guidance on performance improvement plans as needed.
    • Set new hires up for success with a New Hire Orientation and regular follow-up meetings.
  • Employee Relations
    • Serve as a point of contact for employee relations and ensure timely and effective resolution.
    • Conduct investigations into employee complaints and grievances and recommend appropriate courses of action.
    • Promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
    • Assist with employee engagement initiatives, including organizing events and recognition programs.
  • Compensation and Benefits
    • Manage the administration of employee compensation and benefits programs.
    • Conduct regular analysis and review to ensure competitive compensation and benefits offerings.
  • HR Compliance
    • Stay informed about changes in HR legislation and proactively update policies and procedures as needed.
  • HR Administration
    • Perform all HR Administrative functions, including Payroll processing, employee data management and up-to-date records and documentation.
    • Promote workplace safety and file Worker’s Compensation claims for injured workers.
    • Track workplace injuries and prepare OSHA 300-A and 300 annually.
  •  Payroll Processing
    • Manage the end-to-end, multi-state payroll process, including data collection, calculation, and distribution of paychecks or electronic transfers.
    • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll for all employees, including salary, hourly, and H2A contract employees.
    • Review and verify payroll inputs such as timesheets, attendance records, and deductions to ensure accuracy.
    • Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations.
    • Coordinate payroll deductions for employee benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and wage attachments
    • Ensure accurate enrollment and changes to employee benefit plans.
    • Conduct regular audits of payroll records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
    • Reconcile payroll data with general ledger accounts and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries related to payroll, taxes, and deductions.
    • Provide assistance and guidance to employees on payroll-related matters, including understanding pay stubs and tax forms.
  •  Perform other related duties

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or related experience.
  • Prior experience in Human Resource environment
  • Prior experience working in an HRIS
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, and Excel
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain a high level of accuracy under tight deadlines.
  • Impeccable time management skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Detail-oriented approach with ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Positive, solution minded team player
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proactive and responsive
