About the Role

The Supervisor Benefits is responsible for processing, managing and coordinating all aspects leave requests for FMLA, NJFMLA, NJESL, ADA and other company-approved leaves. Ensures that team members understand benefits and how to use them. Advises team members, answers questions, and assists with enrolling team members in Ocean provided benefit voluntary programs.

Position Responsibilities

  • Communicates with team members regarding their needs for leave and/or modified work schedules. Ensures that team members are aware of their responsibilities and of any documentation and notice required to qualify for and to take leave.
  • Handles the FMLA, NJ Sick, NJFLMA and ADA leave administration process from the team members initial notice of the need for leave to the return to work.
  • Confirm that team members understand benefits and how to use them. Will assist team members with appeals or denial decisions made by insurance companies, resolve disputes, and solve problems with benefits and voluntary programs.
  • ​Ensuring all team member records are maintained and updated with leave information or changes in employment status.
  • Maintains reasonable communication with team members on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work; relays communication between team members and their managers during leave within reason.
  • Advises managers and team members on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off benefits.
  • Oversees the return-to-work process for team members returning from extended FMLA or other leave(s).
  • Works with department leaders, timekeepers and payroll to ensure proper leave coding is utilized for paid or unpaid leaves.
  • Facilitates other leave requests, which may include accommodation requests under the ADA.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with specified legal requirements and documentation of best practices.
  • Preserves confidentiality of employee medical documentation and files.
  • Maintains current knowledge of leave and accommodation policies and laws including the FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws.
  • Participates in annual benefits plan analyses, including benchmarking studies and utilization reviews, to gauge program effectiveness and identify areas for enhancement
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English and preferably Spanish.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of three years Human Resources experience, preferably with leave administration or related field
  • Excellent client service and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
