Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. is recruiting two (2) Health Physics Technician III- Radiological Control Technician (RCT), in Las Vegas, NV.

 The Health Physics Technician III provides radiological monitoring and technical support for work involving exposure to ionizing radiation and/or radioactive materials in support of characterization, decommissioning, demolition, and environmental restoration of hazardous and radioactive material sites.

 General Responsibilities and Knowledge Skills:

  • Under limited supervision can perform work, monitor working conditions, and remain cognizant of the current radiological status of work locations.
  • Knowledge of radiological safety topics as established in 10 CFR 835.
  • Completion of biennial requalification training which includes written examination, performance demonstrations and oral board.
  • Ability to perform pre-job radiological briefings to field staff.

Specific Responsibilities and Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance.
  • Implements the requirements of Radiological Work Permits (RWPs), the Nevada National Security Site Radiological Control Manual, procedures, and related work control documents.
  • Provides advice and technical support to project staff in the area of radiological safety and applied radiological controls.
  • Provide the maintenance of accurate records of radiological survey efforts and radiological conditions.
  • Keeps the Radiological Services Manager updated on the status of work activities and related radiological conditions.
  • Takes immediate action to respond to radiological off-normal conditions and to stabilize the situation.
  • Participates in the planning of radiological work.
  • Must have or be able to obtain Department of Transportation certification to drive hazardous materials.
  • Maintains the knowledge and skill needed to maintain U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) NNSS RCT qualification.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalency.
  • Minimum 4 years of related industry experience.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience at a U.S. Department of Energy facility performing radiological control activities as a DOE qualified RCT.
  • Fundamental knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and science.
  • Reading, writing, and comprehension.
  • Fundamental computer skills, i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, email, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must have or be able to obtain 29 CFR 1910.120 “HAZWOPER” 24/40-hour certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Work will be conducted in the field where physical effort may be required, up to and not limited to lifting, bending, reaching, standing, and walking for long periods of time.
  • Overtime may be required to complete assigned tasks.
  • The Molasky building is an office environment where the work is sedentary.
  • Physical Qualifications include the ability to:
    • a. pass a medical examination to drive hazardous materials.
    • b. wear personal protective clothing and equipment.
    • c. wear respiratory protection.
    • d. lift 50 pounds.
    • e. work in hazardous waste areas
    • f. perform extended sitting, bending, kneeling, and walking.
    • g. work in remote locations
    • h. work in extreme weather conditions; wind, rain, and snow, i.e. outdoor temperatures > 115 ⁰F and < 0 ⁰F
