General Summary of Responsibilities:
The Precast Concrete Yard Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire precast yard and shipping department operations. This includes managing the transportation of concrete panels from the production area to finishing areas, ensuring safe and efficient storage of panels, maintaining cleanliness and organization of the storage yard, and supervising the loading of panels onto trailers. The role also involves setting up delivery loads and schedules while ensuring that all transportation activities comply with state and federal regulations by maintaining detailed records of all logistics operations.
Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Management:
- Manage 1-2 foremen and a team of 10-12 laborers/operators/finishers.
- Oversee transportation operations with contract hauler.
- Participate in daily activities within the finish or load area, including equipment operation and quality checks.
- Manage inventory of trailers and frames for loads.
- Production and Scheduling:
- Attend daily production meetings to discuss plans, delivery sequences, and schedules.
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager, Quality Control personnel, and Project Management staff to determine daily production and delivery plans.
- Organize delivery schedules in Excel and communicate with schedules with contract haulers.
- Review trailer and frame availability, set up loads for daily hauls, and schedule routes for deliveries.
- Quality and Safety:
- Evaluate product quality regularly, reporting concerns to Quality Control and the Plant Manager.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards in the plant and yard.
- Inspect and maintain proper safety standards for all trailer setups and loaded trailers.
- Maintain plant safety in accordance with the Safety Manual and Safety Coordinator’s direction.
- Logistics and Transportation:
- Coordinate transportation of precast panels to customers, ensuring timely and safe delivery.
- Check in daily with customers daily for delivery updates.
- Maintain complete records on all drivers, loads, and deliveries using ERP system.
- Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations for trucking operations, including licensing, permitting, and inspections.
- Administrative Responsibilities:
- Manage the organization and cleanliness of the trailer drop lot.
- Monitor the supply of materials used in finishing, patching, yarding, and loading.
- Review and schedule preventive maintenance on yard and shipping equipment.
- Produce BOL’s for hauls for contract hauler
- Approve invoices
Requirements
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a similar or related position.
- Five+ years of supervisory/managerial experience.
- Previous experience in architectural precast concrete manufacturing preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and BlueBeam.
- Language Skills:
- Ability to read instructions, notices, handbooks, and government regulations.
- Effective communication skills for conveying instructions and ideas.
- Ability to read and understand construction documents and shop tickets.
- Mathematical Skills:
- Proficiency in basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to calculate area, volume, and weight and to apply basic geometry concepts.
- Physical Demands:
- Ability to walk, climb, lift, sit, use hands, and hear.
- Manual lifting requirements are moderate to heavy but with assistance from personnel and equipment.
- Work Environment:
- Work is both indoors in an office setting and outdoors in a yard environment, regardless of weather conditions.
- Required to wear all safety equipment used by plant and yard personnel.
- Exposure to low to moderate noise levels and occasional fumes and airborne particles.
