Full Job Description

Scott Data Center located in Omaha, Nebraska is an Uptime Institute Tier III certified (design and facility) data center delivering best-in-class security and storage of business-critical infrastructure. The purpose-built Scott Data Center is located on a technology campus which supports security, telecommunications, compute, network, and phone system infrastructure. 

We are seeking a passionate, talented Senior Network Engineer to join our team, where you will participate in the building and maintenance of the network that services our data centers and clients.

 Our team adheres to the evidence-based methodology and to the principles of agile. A primary feature of our culture is a collaborative environment where you can impact our organizational direction. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will have a variety of diverse responsibilities. We are looking for self-motivated team members that handle multiple concurrent projects. 

Responsibilities include: the implementation and management of our network, development, and support of network-as-a-service offerings, Megaport support, and adherence to our IT Service Management and Service Desk practices.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will experience great exposure to our business and technical leadership, which comes with intentional opportunities for learning and growth. We have validated a series of technical services and believe strongly in a modern operations approach that seeks to make use of automation and orchestration. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping future network architecture. 

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

  • BS or MS in Engineering or Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience required.
  • 6+ years of experience with routing and switching in data centers.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, including documentation and diagramming. 
  • Previously managed production data center environments, including hardware provisioning, network device configuration, and capacity planning.
  • Demonstrated experience with or understanding of spine-leaf architecture.
  • Experience integrating networks with private clouds, storage, or other complex technologies.
  • Proficiency with networking protocols, including MPLS, VLAN, Q-in-Q, VXLAN, EVPN, LACP, MLAG, BGP, IS-IS, and OSPF.
  • Firewall experience: FortiGate or Palo Alto preferred.
  • Site-to-site and Client VPN experience.
  • Public or private cloud networking experience: Azure or AWS preferred, VMware NSX or Nutanix Flow preferred. 
  • Automation, scripting, or programming experience: Ansible or Python preferred.

As a key member of the Scott Data Center team, you will:

  • Design, implement, manage, and support our network services in the data center, wide-area network, and public or private clouds.
  • Automate tasks to drive stability and scaling of the network and associated systems. 
  • Ensure that mission-critical network services operate reliably.
  • Resolve operational issues, participate in retrospectives, and implement improvements to prevent future issues.
  • Implement and support data center network in a spine-leaf architecture.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Technical Services as a liaison with clients, partners, vendors, and service providers.
  • Interact with and support our clients.
