Full Job Description

Continental Disc Corporation, LLC (“CDC”) designs and manufactures safety-critical products that protect pressure-containing vessels from catastrophic failure. CDC is headquartered in Liberty, Missouri (outside Kansas City), and has manufacturing operations in Houston, Texas, and Ahmedabad, India with additional sales offices in India, the Netherlands and China. The Shipping Supervisor manages the shipping department to maintain appropriate order accuracy and work flow to support demands of internal and external customers in the safest, most cost-effective manner and to help ensure the highest quality and best delivery while complying with all company policies and manufacturing procedures.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

*Directly supervise employees in designated department

*Work with the Director of Operations to create a team approach and for optimizing shipping schedules.

*Participate in company hiring process to fill open positions in designated department

*Coordinate job training, both for new employees and to cross-train existing employees

*Evaluate employee performance, both informally on a day-to-day basis, and as a part of the company performance management system

*Prioritize tasks and motivate employees to accomplish departmental objectives

*Coordinate with other supervisors as needed to meet company production schedule

*As needed, assist employees in interpreting specifications, blueprints and work orders

*Ensure that production employees follow company manufacturing procedures, safety practices, and all company policies

*Issue corrective action, up to and including termination, as needed according to company policy and in consultation with Human Resources

*Perform other duties as assigned, based on workload and business need

Qualifications:

Education:  High school diploma or GED. Associate’s degree in Industrial Technology, Business or other related field preferred

Experience:  5 years shipping experience, with at least 1 year experience as a lead person at CDC or in a similar high mix / low volume production environment

Technical / Function Specific:

*Ability to read blueprints

*Advanced math skills, including ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

*Intermediate reading skills

*Effective verbal and written communication skills

*Ability to understand and interpret manufacturing procedures

*Ability to perform the essential functions of each subordinate position in designated department

*Working knowledge of a wide variety of industrial equipment, particularly all machinery and equipment in designated department

*Working knowledge of computers sufficient to successfully use company ERP system, Microsoft Windows and Office

Physical Requirements:

*Motor skills sufficient to successfully and safely use required tools and machinery

*Ability to stand and/or walk for majority of designated department’s scheduled shift, typically 8-10 hours per day, though possibly more when overtime is required

*Ability to independently lift up to 50 pounds as needed and lift up to 100 pounds with the aid of hoists and other equipment

*Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, safety glasses and safety shoes.
