The Shift Group Leader assists the Machine Shop and Tool & Die personnel including planning, training and monitoring their work to ensure that company product of the highest quality is produced in a safe, cost-effective manner to help provide the best delivery to our customers.  Under the direction of the Machine Shop Supervisor, the Shift Group Leader is also responsible for leading continuous improvements on machinery and shop floor operations to support strategic company goals and metrics on 2nd Shift.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

*Drive continuous improvement processes.

*Coordinate job training, both for new employees and to cross-train existing employees.

*Provide feedback on employee performance for 2nd Shift on a day-to-day basis to the production supervisor.

*Coordinate with other supervisors and shift group leaders as needed to meet company production schedule.

*Ensure that needed materials and supplies are available to employees.

*As needed, assist employees in interpreting specifications, blueprints and shop orders.

*Ensure that Machine Shop and Tool & Die employees follow company manufacturing procedures, safety practices, and all company policies.

*Performs direct work demonstrating the ability to perform any of the various operations within the departments.

*Assist Operations Director and the Machine Shop Supervisor in evaluating the need for new equipment and justifying capital expenditures for designated department.

*Perform other duties as assigned, based on workload and business need.

*Performs closing of plant facility.

Qualifications:

Education:  High school diploma or GED. Associate’s degree in Industrial Technology, Business or other related field preferred.

Experience:  5 years machine shop experience, with at least 1 year experience in a leadership role in a similar high mix / low volume production environment.

Technical / Function Specific:

*Ability to read blueprints.

*Advanced math skills, including ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

*Intermediate reading skills.

*Effective verbal and written communication skills.

*Ability to understand and interpret manufacturing procedures.

*Ability to perform the essential functions of a CNC or manual machinist.

*Ability to perform the essential functions of each subordinate position in designated department.

*Working knowledge of computers sufficient to successfully use company ERP system, Microsoft Windows and Office.

Physical Requirements:

*Motor skills sufficient to successfully and safely use required tools and machinery.

*Ability to stand and/or walk for majority of designated department’s scheduled shift, typically 8-10 hours per day, though possibly more when overtime is required.

*Ability to independently lift up to 50 pounds as needed and lift up to 100 pounds with the aid of hoists and other equipment.

*Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, safety glasses, safety shoes and safety harnesses.
