The Health, Safety, & Environmental (HS&E) Manager is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with legal guidelines. He/She will conduct training, investigate incidents, and provide recommendations for improvement, aiming to create a safe and compliant workplace environment.
Requirements
- Policy development: Creating new policies that address health, safety, and environmental concerns. These policies may include new equipment, training programs, or strategies to improve productivity while maintaining compliance with safety standards.
- Risk assessment: Identifying potential hazards and developing strategies to mitigate risks.
- Emergency response: Planning and coordinating emergency responses.
- Training: Developing and delivering training and development programs.
- Compliance: Ensuring compliance with government regulations and company rules.
- Inspections and audits: Conducting audits and inspections to measure, evaluate, and monitor HSE performance.
- Communication: Collaborating with management, workers, and other stakeholders.
- Culture: Promoting a positive HSE culture.
- Community outreach: Engaging in community outreach and environmental stewardship.
- Lead projects to enhance safety of production equipment.
- Ensure safety programs comply with regulatory (OSHA) and customer requirements.
- Ensure employees trained on safety programs and comply with requirements by conducting periodic audits.
- Ensure facilities comply with Federal and State safety and environment requirements; perform required audits to document compliance; ensuring all EPA and DNR laws and regulations are complied with.
- Maintaining compliance to REACH and RoHS.
- Maintain compliance to CMRT and annual completion of surveys to customers.
- Provide reports to customers and third parties for personnel and company compliance to safety, statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain systems for compliance with OSHA 300 reporting.
- Ensure records for hazardous materials use and disposal are maintained.
- Leads process for determining Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) for safety incidents, including “near misses”.
- Tracking incident metrics and applying findings.
- Ensuring safe installation of equipment and overseeing external contractors.
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
- Partner with the HR team on worker’s compensation case management.
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics.
- Perform other duties as assigned, based on workload and business need.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 3-5 years’ experience in Safety, Health & Environmental Management and reporting or relevant industry experience .
TECHNICAL / FUNCTION SPECIFIC:
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Advanced reading skills.
- Ability to perform statistical analysis of data for process capability & improvement.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable certification standards and codes.
- Working knowledge of computers sufficient to successfully use company ERP system, Microsoft Windows and Office.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sufficient manual dexterity to successfully use a computer.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours per day, though possibly more.
- Frequently required to stand and/or walk, up to 6 hours per day, and make frequent trips from the office area to the manufacturing area.
- Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment when in the manufacturing area, including, but not limited to, safety glasses and safety shoes.
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet requirements of the job, up to 10%.
