Pay: $23-24/hour depending upon experience
Schedule
- Full Time, ~40 hours a week, 8 hours per day
- Primarily Monday - Friday with occasional evening or weekend events (~1-2 times a quarter)
- Generally 7:00am-3:30pm or 8:30am-5:00pm
Location: Golden Valley, MN hybrid role. 2-3 days a week at Golden Valley shelter location and 2-3 days a week working remotely.
- This is a hybrid role. The person in this position will have the opportunity to work remotely for part of their time. Frequency of on-site work subject to change as business needs dictate. Access to reliable internet, ability to prioritize work independently, and foster relationships while working in a hybrid (remote and in-person) environment required. Must live in or have easy access to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and be available for frequent face-to-face interactions in Minneapolis/St. Paul and greater Minnesota regions. This role's main office is our Golden Valley, MN location.

Job Summary
The Volunteer Services Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of volunteers.
Essential Functions
Recruitment, Position Design, Selection, and Training:
- Participate and advise in the design, planning and implementation of recruitment strategies to engage volunteers as needed.
- Design and revise volunteer positions including position descriptions, training, and other job aids.
- Receive and review applications, conduct interviews, and select volunteers based on skills and available roles.
- Assist with onboarding and training of volunteers, scheduling online and in-person training.
- Coordinate volunteers for regularly scheduled positions as well as AHS special events as needed.
Supervision:
- Provide protocol updates, program changes, AHS news or other pertinent information to volunteers.
- Address and resolve volunteer questions, concerns and/or additional training needs.
- Provide supervision to volunteers with coaching, constructive feedback, and corrective action as needed if an issue is not resolved by the department lead or supervisor.
- Provide leadership and coaching to other employees regarding supervision of volunteers.
- Support and promote recognition and appreciation activities and events for volunteers.
- Promote the development of strong, positive employee and volunteer working relationships, focusing on collaboration and teamwork.
- Maintain a presence and build relationships with volunteers as their liaison and advocate through a minimum of 2 days a week in assigned shelter locations or community events, including some weeknights and weekends.
- Be familiar with the day-to-day aspects of site operations and job requirements of AHS employees to assist with volunteer participation and questions.
- Maintain, develop, and expand the volunteer program along with other Volunteer Services employees to fulfill the AHS mission.
Organization:
- Maintain volunteer files, statistics, and database for tracking all activities within the volunteer program.
- Ensure volunteers are accurately tracked within all systems, including the volunteer database and reports to the board and staff.
- Monitor volunteer attendance to ensure compliance with policies, scheduling needs, and address problem areas.
- Manage volunteer program supply needs at designated site, ensuring volunteer information and supply areas have up to date information, are clean, organized and well stocked.
Communication and Culture:
- Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, other employees, and volunteers.
- Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a more welcoming environment for employees, volunteers, customers, and the community.
Technology:
- Manage and view volunteer information and schedules in the volunteer database, Digital Cheetah.
- Clock in and out of shifts using the electronic time clock, ADP.
- Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Information Regarding the Schedule and Attendance
- Required to be on time to scheduled shifts during operational hours which may include evenings and weekends.
- Attend and participate in regular Volunteer Services team meetings and 1:1 meetings with direct leader.
- Participate on AHS committees as appropriate and assigned.
- May be required to work at a different site based on department needs.
- Provide back-up to the HR Coordinator/Receptionist as needed.
Work Environment
- Primarily office/desk-based position.
- Adjacent animal shelter areas may be humid, noisy, or odorous.
Requirements
Experience:
- Volunteer coordination and leadership experience preferred.
Skills:
- Excellent communication, organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Strong administrative and process management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work with diverse groups of individuals.
- Ability to lead and collaborate with external and internal customers and departments.
- Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Prolonged sitting at a desk.
Emotional Demands:
- Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.
Transportation:
- Reliable transportation required.
