Senior Learning Manager (USA)
Location:
Remote, with regular travel in the USA, but must be based in Minnesota
Salary: $86,000 - 97,000 p.a. full-time equivalent, dependent on experience
Basis: Permanent: full-time, part-time, flexible
Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in the US

The role

We are looking to appoint an experienced educator to join the Raspberry Pi Foundation's US team to help increase access to computer science education for young people.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for leading the adaptation and development of our curriculum, teacher professional development, and learning experiences for young people, ensuring that they address the needs of teachers and students in the US. You will also support the expansion of our network of Code Clubs, providing safe and fun environments for young people to get creative with technology.

This is a varied role and you will be responsible for identifying and developing partnerships, designing and delivering curricula and CPD, engaging with policy makers, and more. You will also work closely with the Executive Director to develop our strategy for the US.

You will have a background in computing science education, with a track record of having created curricula, resources, learning experiences, or teacher professional development activities.

As part of our new US strategy, we have made a commitment to working with partners in Minnesota to increase equitable access to computer science education. This role will therefore be based in Minnesota and you will need to have a good understanding of the education system, ideally with direct experience of working in schools or non-formal education in the state. You will work in partnership with local school districts, nonprofits, state government, and industry to expand access to computer science education in Minnesota, ensuring that the Raspberry Pi Foundation's resources and capabilities complement those of local partners.

While a significant portion of your time will be focused on Minnesota, you will also work across the USA, developing learning experiences, products, and partnerships that benefit millions of students. You will also work closely with colleagues outside the US, contributing to the Foundation's global mission.

We strive to make the Foundation a place where talented people who care about our mission can do the best work of their careers. We have a flexible and collaborative approach to all aspects of our work. If you’re the right person for the job, we’ll make it work for you, and you can be confident that you’ll be working with an exceptional team.

Main responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and manage partnerships to increase access to computer science education in the US, with a particular focus on Minnesota.
  • Lead the adaptation, development, and delivery of curriculum, teacher professional development, and learning experiences for young people, ensuring that they address the needs of teachers and students.
  • Ensure that all of our activities reflect evidence-based and culturally responsive pedagogy and the Foundation's agreed approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Contribute to the development of the Foundation's teaching and learning strategy and approaches. Actively engage with research and best practice, and identify areas for improvement and innovation.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization and with partner organizations.
  • Ensure that capacity and resources are planned and managed effectively to deliver the agreed priorities.
  • Take responsibility for proactively gathering user feedback and data, and use that to drive improvement. Ensure that user feedback and data are reported internally and externally as required.
  • Represent the Raspberry Pi Foundation to external audiences and stakeholders as required.
  • Contribute to the Foundation's thought leadership through writing articles and blogs, public speaking, and contributing to research and evaluation.

Experience and personal attributes

We recognise that everyone has the potential for growth and development. We expect post holders to have most, but not necessarily all of the following experience and personal attributes:

  • A thorough understanding of computing, with a degree or equivalent qualification in computer science or a related subject.
  • A teaching qualification or significant experience of teaching computing or a related subject.
  • Experience of developing and delivering curricula, teacher professional development, and learning experiences for students in a variety of different settings and contexts.
  • A good understanding of the Minnesotan education system, ideally with experience of teaching in the state.
  • Comfortable with a broad range of technologies, including hardware and software platforms, and the ability and willingness to learn new technologies as required.
  • An understanding of computing pedagogy within formal education and non-formal learning, including an understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy and experience with developing culturally responsive curricula.
  • A commitment to the Foundation's mission and values, including on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience of managing a team, with a collaborative and supportive approach to leadership and the ability to plan and manage resource allocation effectively across multiple projects and priorities.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and external partners.
  • Experience of the collection, management, and analysis of feedback and data, and the ability to use that to drive improvement.
  • The ability to travel within the USA and internationally.

About us

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a global education nonprofit with the mission to enable young people to realize their full potential through the power of computing and digital technologies. In the US we operate through Raspberry Pi Foundation North America which is a registered 501(c)(3) organization.

Established in 2008 and first known for our product — the wildly successful Raspberry Pi computer — the Foundation has developed education programs, learning experiences, and products that are helping millions of young people learn vital new knowledge and skills

Through Code Club we support the world’s largest network of free informal computing clubs for young people. Tens of thousands of educators have taken our online courses and use our pioneering computing curriculum, and millions of young people use our free online learning resources. To deepen our understanding of how young people learn about computing and how to create with digital technologies, we conduct academic research, and we use that knowledge to increase the impact of our work and advance the field of computing education more widely.

Across all of our work, we engage young people who come from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in the field of computer science or who experience educational disadvantage. We work all over the world, with teams in India, Ireland, Kenya, South Africa, UK and the USA, and partnerships with mission-aligned organizations in over 40 other countries.

Benefits

In addition to competitive salaries, we offer a range of benefits for all of our colleagues in the USA, including:

  • 15 days annual leave plus public holidays (prorated for part-time employees)
  • Option of buying up to 2 working weeks extra annual leave per year
  • Company-wide close down for 3 days at the end of the year
  • Paid sabbatical leave (after 7 years of service)
  • Retirement savings plan (401(k))
  • Workers’ compensation cover
  • Group term life and AD&D insurance
  • Medical cover (including dental and vision)
  • Family leave policies

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. If successful in the selection process, you will be required to undergo a background check to confirm that you are a suitable person to work with children. Further background checks will be made at regular intervals thereafter.
