Full Job Description

As the National Practice Director for Energy & Utilities at Pioneer, you will play a pivotal role in leading and advancing the growth of our Energy & Utilities practice on a national scale. You will provide strategic oversight and accountability to ensure the achievement of key business and financial objectives, in alignment with company goals. Your responsibilities will span across business planning, development, financial management, delivery excellence, practice development, and talent cultivation. In this capacity, you will lead and manage a team of dedicated Delivery Directors who oversee consultants across the practice, driving forward our vision for excellence and innovation in the energy and infrastructure sectors. 

 

Responsibilities include:  

 

Business Planning and Management: 

  • Defines the vision, strategy, and priorities for the Energy & Utilities practice and is responsible for attainment of business targets and success metrics (e.g., revenue, profit, utilization, engagement, CSATs, etc.). 
  • Accountable for the financial performance of the practice as measured by the P&L, including budgeting, revenue generation, and expense management. 
  • Reviews and monitors daily, monthly, and quarterly analytics to track progress against goals, identify potential disruptions that could create risk or result in negative impacts to customers or employees, and inform decisions focused on business outcomes. 

 

Business Development and Growth: 

  • Possesses a broad understanding of Pioneer’s markets, products, services, and capabilities, and leverages those to identify opportunities and drive cross-practice sales growth with new and existing energy and utility clients.  
  • Conducts intake meetings, in partnership with business development, to scope potential opportunities, develops client proposals and accompanying collateral, and drives SOW completion and sign-off. 
  • Enhance the Pioneer brand and presence in the energy and infrastructure sections through participation in national industry, community, and campus activities. 

 

Practice Development 

  • Possesses deep practice expertise and is attuned to emerging market trends and best practices that may impact delivery and growth. 
  • Stay abreast of emerging market trends and best practices in energy and infrastructure, driving the development of innovative tools and solutions to maintain Pioneer's competitive advantage. 
  • Share your expertise and best practices within the team and externally with clients and industry partners. 

 

Delivery Excellence                   

  • Partners with internal stakeholders to ensure collaboration, consistent quality delivery, issue escalation, and resolution to meet client expectations. 
  • Serves as a strategic thought partner, coach, and mentor on projects. 
  • Reviews and contributes to client proposals and statements of work. 
  • Provides operational oversight, including practice resource plans, SOP compliance, CSAT management, bench management, client partnership connections, etc. 

 

Talent Management: 

  • Champion Pioneer's values and foster an outstanding employee experience within the Energy & Utilities practice. 
  • Partners with HR to support the performance and development of team members (direct and indirect reports) through core people processes including coaching, career development, performance management, talent planning and succession. 
  • Collaborates with Talent Acquisition to build a pipeline, recruit, select, and onboard a diverse team of top talent. 
  • Accountable for culture and employee engagement; implements action plans to improve the organizational health of the practice. 

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in management consulting within the energy and utilities sector, demonstrating a deep understanding of industry dynamics, challenges, and opportunities. 
  • 5 or more years of leadership experience, preferably in roles involving the management of other leaders, with a proven ability to inspire, motivate, and develop high-performing teams to achieve strategic objectives. 
  • Proven track record of delivery, with a results-oriented mentality and a demonstrated ability to coordinate, execute, and follow up on critical priorities to drive positive outcomes for clients and the organization. 
  • Ability to create and execute thoughtful business plans, adjusting strategies as needed to align with organizational goals and market dynamics, while effectively managing resources and mitigating risks to maximize success. 
  • Demonstrated success in revenue generation or business growth in a client-facing role, with experience in sales and/or account management, showcasing the ability to identify opportunities, cultivate relationships, and drive sustainable growth. 
  • Strong analytical ability, proficient in understanding key data and metrics, and adept at leveraging this information to inform strategic decision-making, improve business performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Possesses a strategic mindset, deep business acumen, credibility, and the ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization, internally and externally. 
  • A highly collaborative work style, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and meticulous attention to detail, fostering a culture of teamwork, innovation, and excellence. 
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, visiting various client sites and Pioneer offices throughout the United States as needed to support business operations and client engagements. 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. 

Benefits

The estimated base salary range for this role is $190-225K annually. This is based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skillset and years and depth of experience. This may differ from location to location. Bonuses and other incentives are awarded at the Company’s discretion and are based upon individual contributions and overall company performance.
